KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 Remember, he only threw 3 pitches so he should still be good to go if required. He had to warm up twice. That's probably worse than if he had simply started the ninth as originally planned.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 How was Hutch's velocity? 90-92. I think he topped out at 93.
Convo Verified Member Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 90-92. I think he topped out at 93. He topped out at 95.8

That's what pissed me up about Delabar's performance. Delabar's struggles actually scare me in terms of AA overpaying for middle relief. I was thinking it might be helpful to send Delabar down to Buffalo, but then I remembered Buffalo has been decimated by injuries.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 He topped out at 95.8 Either I missed that or SN's gun is really shy.

Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 Do not see this I meant in their main rotating frame http://i.imgur.com/kARaUqX.png For some reason, it's not in the MLB section LOL
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 Well it just sucks now if we want/need Janssen in games 2 and 3. He only threw 3 pitches though, I doubt he'll be too sore tomorrow to pitch
kgm1 Verified Member Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 Said this once before, will not be surprised if when Santos gets healthy Delabar goes down. Too many walks
Convo Verified Member Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 Said this once before, will not be surprised if when Santos gets healthy Delabar goes down. Too many walks Santos...... 11 walks in 12 IP....... pick your poison buddy. At this point it looks like Santos at least has a better chance to strike guys out, Delabar doesn't look nasty anymore.

He still can throw nasty stuff his problem is he can't control much very well right now and no one's gonna chase if you're not throwing strikes with the fb.
flafson Verified Member Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 How was Hutch's velocity? He seemed same/slightly better but according to Zaun he was slightly worse.
shortstop Verified Member Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 felt like a playoff game watching on tv...watching Hutch was great but it was a reminder that we need 1 more piece in the starting rotation for these types of games...whether 0-0 or a low run ball game in meaningful regular season/playoff games...no offence to Happ, but I expect him to get demolished on Thursday which sucks cuz I'll be heading to the game & was praying Stro show would get the start...
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 I suspect we've seen Santos throw his last pitch for the Blue Jays unless they bring him back on a cheap 1-year deal for 2015. Basically, we have to hope Walker helps Delabar fix his mechanical issues. I remember reading something during ST where Delabar had worked with some pitching guru in the off season to fix his mechanics. The issue was that he was flying open the fastball was running high and into RHB. This is exactly what his issue is. Either the fastball runs high and in on RHB or low and away.
shortstop Verified Member Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 I expect Rasmus, Santos, maybe Happ, Morrow gone next season - that's what - $28M-$30M freed up in payroll of course there's contracts that increase in salary next year + re-signing guys to higher $ than what they're making now...

I think a lot of us always expect Happ to get "demolished". He has the gift of low expectations.

Lol, Happ does suck and I strongly dislike him - but teams have worse 5th starters. Just hate the inconsistency of our "ace". Does Dickey out-duel another team's ace if (god forbid) we made the post season?

Time for him to step up.
shortstop Verified Member Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 I shiver at the thought of Dickey in a important regular season/playoff game...who knows how that knuckler's floating that day and whether he can get pitches in the zone...
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 I don't think you will ever see Delabar go down. I think you will see more Dusty in the late innings where you would normally see Delabar and move him back to 6th inning duties type in less stress situations. Hopefully he can find his command he had last season however Santos would be nice to have back with Delabar struggling.

Unless I'm wrong about him having options, I don't see why you wouldn't send Delabar to the minors to work out his issues there when you have the luxury to do so with impunity. This is doubly true when you consider that a really good reliever in Wagner is being wasted down there instead of him.

I don't know the extent of his injuries but other than him i don't know who you would bring up that would be much better. Steve is having control issues right now and i don't know what the right course of action is but my guess is if he does not figure it out we may be not just searching for a new starting pitcher but also looking for a righty that we can throw in the back of the pen in the 7th and 8th to compliment Cecil.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 Dusty has been effective as a reliever so far this year: 8IP 4H 1ER 4K/1BB 1ER Obviously would like the K's to rise but he's throwing strikes effectively.

Hasn't Wagner been activated from the MiLB DL for awhile now? Edit: Never mind. I just saw that he was only placed on the DL on June 2. I guess I'm just not on top of the latest news and it seem from this article that nearly everyone is banged up in AAA: http://www.bluebirdbanter.com/2014/6/2/5774064/neil-wagner-placed-on-disabled-list-sent-to-florida-for-re-evaluation.
shortstop Verified Member Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 I agree with Sammy that the jays will likely adopt the approach of bringing him in earlier in games/less important situations whereas McGowan will pitch in the tough situations we expected Delabar to pitch in...imo, he's not struggling enough to send down to the minors & the hope is he'll get it right soon as he's a crucial part of this pen as the games get more & more important...
Governator Community Moderator Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 Well it just sucks now if we want/need Janssen in games 2 and 3. To be fair he threw 3 pitches.
