Assuming you can't make any kind of trade to free up room, I would drop Ortiz. He'll be 40 next season, and I know I say this every year, but eventually he has to break down.

You could only protect a certain amount of players over 25 and based on player rating/ownership etc you have to choose a FA on your team every year who then gets re entered in the draft.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Okay I need your advice. This trade went down in a 12 person league where I'm the commissioner. Basically some want it vetoed, some say it's okay. Troy Tulowitzki for Jake Arrieta + Corey Dickerson Basically the owner in 7th (6 teams make the playoffs) is worried Tulo might be out a long time so did this trade. Is it lopsided enough to veto or is it a legitimate deal due to Tulo's health?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 I think he should have asked for a lot more but I don't think it's *vetoable*.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 I think he should have asked for a lot more but I don't think it's *vetoable*. That's pretty much the same thought process I have. Another owner might have given more, but this deal itself (and the concept of selling Tulo) makes sense.
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 I think it's tough to veto a trade when it's between two legitimate owners. Unless a rule is broken or it's something extremely fishy like Tulo for JJ Hardy and Jeff Locke lol.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 I'm very lenient in terms of vetoing deals myself. Basically anything that isn't blatant collusion.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2014 Author Posted July 28, 2014 So Brandon McCarthy has just become available in a 12-team dynasty league that I partake in. Should I drop Rubby or Roenis for him?

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Someone offered me Ian Kennedy and Kris Medlen for Mike Zunino in my ESPN 40 man roster dynasty league. I have Mesoraco as my catcher, however its nice to have a catcher like Zunino to backup down the stretch since my team is in second place in the NL. I'm going to see if he wants to do the deal in the offseason, though if I need to make a decision right now would you do that deal? From a value perspective its quite good. I know Zunino has displayed some great pop this year but other than that, he hasn't been anything special.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Take that deal this instant. Right now. Without thinking. Like, literally right this second. -A Zunino owner

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 So Brandon McCarthy has just become available in a 12-team dynasty league that I partake in. Should I drop Rubby or Roenis for him? Depends on how good your team is, also really matters if your league uses K/BB. If it does, drop Rubby for him. Actually, maybe drop Rubby for him either way but in a non K/BB league that is less clear cut.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Ryu + Holland + Miller >>>> Dickerson + Despaigne imo Yeah agreed. If I could get Holland out of this deal, I don't have a problem. I have no use for Despaigne, I'd cut him before the keeper deadline lol.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Yeah agreed. If I could get Holland out of this deal, I don't have a problem. Holland + Miller maybe (mind you, I have different valuations than a lot of people do, so take that as you will)
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 How about this boys, in a 5 man keeper league. Need to choose from V-mart, Soler, Betts, Bautista, Bryant, M Harvey, Cespedes, Dozier. Betts and Bautista are locks for me.

Soler, Bautista, Bryant, Harvey, and either Cespedes or Betts probably for me.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Wasting a spot last year on Bryant and then not keeping him would seem kind of silly imo. I'd go Bautista, Harvey, Bryant Betts and Soler.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 In a 5 man keeper age means nothing. Keep the best player for the coming season period.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Wasting a spot last year on Bryant and then not keeping him would seem kind of silly imo. I'd go Bautista, Harvey, Bryant Betts and Soler. We had a Not active spot so it wasn't really wasting was just hoping he get called up end of season.

Need to choose from V-mart, Soler, Betts, Bautista, Bryant, M Harvey, Cespedes, Dozier. Betts and Bautista are locks for me. Cespedes and Dozier are right out. The other cut is very tough. I'd probably cut one of the youngsters. If you have a CF slot I'd keep Mookie and cut Soler.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 I wouldn't keep both of Soler and Betts. Soler's a better lock to start, but has injury concerns. Betts is the better talent, but doesn't have a clear path. I'd personality take Betts; talent always rises to the top.
