eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 With our luck, Tim Wakefield comes out of retirement to sign with the A's, starts against us tomorrow night, and we lose like 12 in a row.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 This was the game: http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/BOS/BOS200905190.shtml This was the f***ing game that ruined that god damn season. I think I made that thread like a day before this game. They completely fell apart after this one.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Bruce actually gave us a pretty good start that night too. Solid 6 innings. Really threw his balls to the wall during that one.

If he did that, that would've been during the Boston series. Wakefield wouldn't play for anyone other than the Red Sox. But we could do the same effect to the A's with Dickey this Saturday..
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Just wanna throw out that I like the way the Jays are using their 3rd jersey this year. Last year I had no idea what games they would be wearing Blue, they would seem to just use it every second game. This year they seem more consistent with using it during day games, which speaks for the team being consistent as well. Your avatar is a bear holding a Tommy-gun while surfing on a shark. Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

Plus, our Jays are deeper than the '09 team. Man, that lineup we had was terrible outside of Lind and Hill.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Hard to believe that was five freaking years ago. That stretch of 2009 is the most meaningful Jays baseball I've ever witnessed. And so the old saying goes f*** TIM WAKEFIELD
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Hard to believe that was five freaking years ago. That stretch of 2009 is the most meaningful Jays baseball I've ever witnessed. The 9 game losing streak that followed was devastating. Facepalm after facepalm every night. The rotation was brutal though. Cecil, Robert Ray, Janssen, Scott Richmond, and Tallet (along with Doc) all had starts immediately after that Wakefield game. They had no chance with that rotation.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 The world series should be easy to make.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 It'd be a pretty big shame if they didn't go after another pitcher this year though. Hutch and Buehrle are carrying their weight but you aren't going to make the playoffs with the current rotation. I think Dickey will get better but there are still too many question marks.

How we were even in contention in '09 that early is a real question mark.. luckily, the 2014 team has more depth in the rotation, and much weaker competition due to age and regression of most of the AL East except Baltimore. Lineup is much deeper as well.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 23, 2014 Author Posted May 23, 2014 I may remove this signature as a sign of faith in this team

Everyone really bought into that team though. I remember us being the big story of the early season, league-wide. The Wakefield game will forever be burned into my retinas. ---- Re: this season, as I posted in the AB2014 thread, the Jays have a better than 50-50 shot at making the playoffs per Fangraphs. They have a better shot than the Yankees and Orioles do COMBINED (54.7%: 54.4%). We got this.

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 The world series should be easy to make. They may have to create some sort of super world series just to give the Jays a challenge. Jays versus the Japanese and Cuban collective all-star team for the title of ultimate champions of the galaxy?
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 This lineup is ridiculous. Like 2011/2012 Texas Rangers level deep. Blue Jays 2014: 111 wRC+ Rangers 2011-12: 109 wRC+ The 2003 Red Sox had the best team wRC+ in recent history at 120. The 1927 Yankees were at 126.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 The worst thing about the Wakefield game was all of the resulting talk about how his knuckleball that night "messed up the Jays' swings". They had no business being 26-14 or whatever they were at the time. They sucked.

This year they've been much more conservative with it. The road greys are my favourite of the three too.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 It's not really an idea. It's actually happening. Remember that time in 2014 when the Jays started wearing grey during their night games? As for the Avatar, I can see you're offended somehow and I don't really care. It's probably the most offensive avatar ever for this generation. I don't follow comic books at all but I know a few people that do and they say Deadpool sucks. Which is probably true because I mean, what comic book character other then Deadpool doesn't have a movie? Does he have movie? I dunno. I don't follow the internet movie data base, but I'm pretty sure he doesn't. I think it's because he sucks. I'm pretty sure my Avatar will get a movie before yours does. Okay, so I revise my impression to: "your avatar is awesome, but you're kinda slow on the uptake..." What in the s*** could possibly be offensive about a bear holding a tommy-gun surfing on a shark? unless you are offended by awesome, I guess.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Maybe you had a family member that was killed by a tommy gun-bearing bear surfing on a shark? How would that level of bragging rights be a bad thing? "Your grandfather was killed in the war? That's rough man... Mine was killed by a tommy-gun-wielding-bear-surfing-on-a-motherf***ing-shark!"
