Yet, they're likely to go to a 4-man rotation with the day off on Monday. Basically they're telling Stroman they have no confidence in him. If they choose Redmond, they had better send Stroman down to continue starting every 5th day.

I'm assuming this is a quote from Walker, if it isn't, disregard the following quote from AA:

 

"I don’t think there is a scenario where we would keep him [stroman] in a long role," said Anthopoulos. "The thought when we called him up was that he could give us a boost late in the game," he added but, "now with McGowan back and with Janssen back we have definitely discussed potentially either putting him in the rotation in Toronto, or having him come back here and start and be stretched out and available".

 

He said this after watching Hendriks pitch in Buffalo last night. Seems to me like a contradiction to what Walker said.

From the moves made, I personally don't think AA and the coaching staff are on the same page, which is part of the problem with the roster management.

Maybe not. Maybe the idea is that he would go to AAA just to stretch it out and come back. Kind of like a rehab. Personally I think it's not a bad idea to work him in the way Hentgen was.

Walker said they had no intention of sending him down, but AA said they discussed sending him back down to start. Clear contradiction.

 

As far as working him in like Hentgen was, why are they doing this with Stroman, but didn't do it with Drabek, Alvarez and Hutchison?

 

IMO, it has nothing to do with letting Stroman get his feet wet at the MLB level. It was a panic move after the MLB bullpen had blown a few games. The quote I posted above confirms this:
