The_DH Verified Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Bingo!! The stats and projection models are useful, I never knock JFAS over that, but I believe what they can't measure is the mental side. Some call that luck. There's a reason we play out the games otherwise we could look at roster construction and declare someone a winner without ever playing an inning. The key problem here is the lack of respect for other opinions. This board has a habit of descending into one thought pattern.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Isn't he walking 8.68 BB/9? That's not good.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Obviously no, but when you K 16.39 /9 it's manageable. xFIP uses both and is 3.48. I agree, though didn't you just say a pitcher gets paid to limit walks? He hasn't done that so far. I love the K/9 rate - it's definitely elite and always has been. Though his high BB% concerns me and when you start putting base runners on in close games, then balls that fall in for base hits hurt you at the end of the day.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Man you must've loved Carlos Marmol in his prime. And he would have been an idiot not to considering that Marmol put up season of 1.7, 1.4 and 2.8 WAR. And guess what, he had ERA's of 1.43 in 2007, 2.68 in 2008, and 2.55 in 2010, however his xFIP's those years were 3.55, 3.66 and then his best season (2010) 2.83.
