Yay

Holly s***! Did not expect this. I guess Melky's injury finally forced AA's hand. This really should have been done when the Rasmus injury happened but at least it's finally been done. I hope Sierra gets claimed so that AA isn't tempted to use him again.

My avatar agrees with you.

Yet another pretty much useless middle IF recalled too. Does AA never get the idea of solid depth is something more than just filling spots with guys it's actually having guys that might make a difference? Easier said than done but he doesn't seem to learn. I just hope Gose gets playing time and doesn't just rot on the bench. Give him a shot while he's up and see if he can do anything.

Tolleson is all kind of yuck. A 236/.345/.333 line in AAA from a thirty year old? Only the OBP is decent and even that is really nothing for AAA. Garbage in, garbage out.

It's almost like we can't get a piece of news that we 100% like... They could have chosen someone better than that, right? I prefer Diaz honestly.

I dont really get the point of Tolleson. I am thinking its more of a trading defense for offense, but Diaz was pretty huge with the glove, and looking back at minor league stats, both him and Tolleson have similar (s*****) numbers.

I don't care right now. I stopped reading after seeing "Sierra DFA" and started dancing

I remember watching Yankee games on TV in the late 80's/1990 in Toronto, when we got WPIX to come through grainy, and Wayne Tolleson (Steve's Dad) was their starting 2nd baseman for a bit. Those were the days. The Yankees were perennially in last place, and it was a treat when you could see another team's games on TV. This was before the MLB.TV obviously, before the WGN, WSBK, TBS superstations came to canadian cable, and TSN didn't pick up ESPN Sunday Night Baseball.

Hopefully Gose does good for a few games and then starts for Rasmus until he is traded.

yes to Gose...hopefully he can stick the rest of the year & moving forward

Tolleson who? geez

Gose last 10 games:

0.229 0.325 0.286 0.611

... season line not much better, .235 .350 .309 .659

I'm flabbergasted. CF of the future!

The backup SS job is becoming a real problem for the team. I think it would have been a good job for Goins but he was set up for failure by being miscast as an everyday player. I don't know anything about Tolleson's defense. If it's really good and he's a bit more fundamentaly sound at the plate, it's an upgrade. If his defense isn't good than the move is pretty pointless. Like Diaz, he bats right-handed so at least he's a platoon option. Getz/Tolleson might be serviceable. I think a lot of us would have preffered to see Shimpf get a look even though he's left-handed. He and Burns are the only middle infielder in the minors with any kind of bat and Burns has been flat out terrible so far this year.

Yeah kind of surprised Gose got this assignment instead of Pillar or Mastro. At least this means no Bautista backing up CF.

Aside from making a trade, who was your suggestion for MIF call up?

Gose is actually a bench player. Is he a good one? Not quite sold on that but he can at least play defense and pinch run.

Tolleson makes some sense (given the slop we have). I just ran through his minor league splits and he's been pretty good against lefties. Perhaps a Tolleson/Getz platoon gets them average defense and a .650 OPS.

Still better than Sierra.

And historically April is Gose's worst month offensively in the minors (stats from 2011-present day)

I don't get why it's a fad to like Gose. He's proven year-in and year-out that he just can't hit.

Why couldn't he before?

They thought he needed steady playing time I suspect

They should be able to get him lots of playing now though. No Rajai Davis. Melky out a bit. Rasmus struggling.

It's the defense

The speed is awesome too, but when we last saw him in the bigs he was still a poor base stealer despite it

Surprising because prior to last year he was pretty efficient. He has too much speed to not be a force on the base paths.
