spats Verified Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I think the Jays may have found their CF of the future in Dalton Pompey. I have watched this kid down here in Dunedin in many games and he has very few bad at bats. He is hitting at a .358 clip and already has 14 SB. He also plays a great CF as evidenced by his circus catch last night in Tampa. He runs everything down.Hopefully he develops some power.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Still has a long way to go, but he has for sure looked promising so far.

Centerfield is probably the best position of minor league depth for the Jays.

After reading that article I am even more impressed with him!
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 He is what i wish Brett Lawrie was mentally, not a douchebag and a good head on his shoulders.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 I was going to ask about his defense, but i can see from the posts here he can play a good CF. Got to keep tabs on this Mississauga kid.

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 He's sealing Rasmus's fate, i love it. He should get promoted to AA at some point this year. If he does well there, AA let's Rasmus walk for sure. I still think they let him walk regardless and throw money at Melky.
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 So wonderful to see toolsy guys can actually peform well at the plate...was starting to think it was a myth
Caper Verified Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Where is that prospect list we all voted on during the winter? I wonder if he was even on the list.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 If Pompey is in fact legit, gotta give the org. credit in terms of development.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 He and Smith Jr are forming a nice tandem in the Dunedin OF. Smith Jr has just 1 less walk than K this year so far with a nice all around game. He's only 5'11 so his power might not have the kind of ceiling you'd want in a corner OF, but so far hasn't been a liability against LHP as a LHB, that's a plus.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Move to 2B should be soon I wonder what's the hold up? Why wouldn't they have moved him already? With the hot start maybe he stays in the OF after all.
Caper Verified Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 I always wondered this. Why couldn't a player like Pompey play 2nd base? Obviously his real value comes from center... By why not try making some of these guys versatile or the added advantage of being versatile.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 I wonder what's the hold up? Why wouldn't they have moved him already? With the hot start maybe he stays in the OF after all. 'cause he doesn't have the ability to play at 2B? Maybe....
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 'cause he doesn't have the ability to play at 2B? Maybe.... They could have tried it in non-game action and determined it just wasn't going to work. Its too bad really because his bat would play so much better at second.
