I had no idea that players could reject claims. So stupid on his part as he can play 1B, corner OF and all he can do well is hit lefties. A great fit in Toronto. Of course in Baltimore he gets a chance to get a lot of AB's over the next couple of weeks.

Interesting read on some of the exemptions here

I'm really confused as to what happened here. Was he released before the Davis injury? Is that why they went from having no room for hiim to deciding they wanted him after all?

This gives some insight into what the Jays want to do with Sierra's spot. They didn't DFA him when they signed a much better defensive outfielder but (presumably) they would have released him for a better right-handed bat and continued to back up CF with Bautista.

I'm going to tweet a few people and see if I can get an answer.

I suppose it's possible that we've never heard about people rejecting a claim cause people that have just been DFA'd don't usually have that many options though.

When Steve Pearce say "NO' to you, then, you're in serious trouble as a franchise.

Fired Alex

The fact that they were scouring the waiver wire for the kind of Moises Sierra replacement that you could have easily obtained in the offseason is the bigger indictment.

"By not filling first baseman Chris Davis’ roster spot when he was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, the Orioles had the option to re-sign Pearce and add him to the active roster after he became a free agent, but before they went back to a full complement of players."

I think I can reconstruct the timeline from this sentence. They released Pearce but when Chris Davis was injured, they put Davis on the DL without replacing him and took advantage of the window that allows you to bring back a player quickly if it's a DL replacement. In this case, that also involved re-signing him.

Kevin Pillar, low ceiling guy, is our bet choice right now. Nothing to lose. Mastro could help too.

Sierra is just a....................."Hoyo negro"

I like Kevin Pillar in theory. His skills profile very well for a part time role but this slump he's in looks pretty serious. It's not a your garden variety slump. He hasn't hit in nearly a year and I just think calling him up now to fill a part time role is just setting him up for more failure.

Things like this only happen to us. He could have fit on this team quite nicely.

He probably has a side deal with the Orioles to get released again when Davis comes back. At least I hope, for his sake, that he does otherwise he shouldn't have agreed to this.

Pillar is not in a slump. He started off the year a bit slow, but hes hitting .400 over his last 10 games.

Well good for him if he's busting out of it because it's been awhile since he's hit.

Pillar is on fire lately.

Yeah King already corrected me on that. I'm glad he's doing well because I thought he the best internal candidate for 4th OF coming into the season. He profiles like a poor man's Reed Johnson which is pretty much what the Jays need.

Player must have known he'd get despaired

Good to know

He looked so bad in spring training that I had pretty much given up on him

His line over the last 10 games:

.375 .405 .500 .905

.405 OBP - .375 AVG = Low BB rate lol

And he bats right. He would appear to be more useful than Sierra.

Yet Sierra has no options

Therefore he gets a 25 man roster spot

AA's roster decisions are killing this team.

Does anyone else think he won't get claimed. I see so no reason why any team would claim Sierra. Maybe if he was 21-22. But hes 25 turning 26 in September.

A team full of Dominicans that wants him around because he's got a great arm. Oh wait...we can't claim him.

Does anyone actually care anymore how well this team does? It's being run by a bunch of clowns and the players themselves are a pretty unlikable group.

It bums me out that our backup outfielder can't 1) play the outfield well, or 2) hit. Hell, I wouldn't even care if he couldn't hit if he could play anywhere in the outfield at least averagely. Sierra does nothing to help this team. Since Pearce, who actually seems like a decent free pickup, isn't going to be on this team, we may as well bring up the Mastro.

I am not sure what else the front office needs to see in Sierra to DFA, there costing themselves games and there jobs every second longer he's on the roster.
