The Toronto Blue Jays will add second baseman Chris Getz to the roster Tuesday, according to multiple sources, after the club optioned Ryan Goins to triple-A Buffalo on Monday night.

 

The team didn’t announce the move because they will need to clear a spot for him on the 40-man roster.

 

Getz’s speed game will give manager John Gibbons more options at the bottom of his lineup.

Yep. Sorely won't be up here again. Might as well be removed from the 40. It's meaningless to the Jays. But Sierra needs to be replaced. His performance and lack of utility is hurting the team on a regular basis.

I hadn't noticed Ryan Schimpf was promoted to Buffalo. Kevin Pillar went 4-4 today with 2 BB (probably his first 2 BB, lol). Mastroianni went 3-6. Gose 2-5 with a BB. Kratz went 3-4 with a BB.

Who gives a s*** about who's playing 2B if his name isn't Kawazaki or Drew? Everyone else is about the same level (as in Goins/Getz/Diaz). Some of the people here are fighting over 0.2 fWAR! Goins is on track for 0 fWAR, Diaz is on track for 0.2 fWAR and Getz has averaged 0.2 fWAR across his 6 MLB seasons. It makes little difference lmao

I believe Drew said he was only signing a one year deal. So sign Drew to a huge chunk of money & lose a pick in a year that means zilch. Not smart.

I don't like the yo-yo approach to baseball. Guy has a bad month, week, day, whatever and he get sent down. Either commit to a guy or don't. Goins had a bad month offensively and he was flawless defensively... I'd rather just see him stay then plug some other scrub in and disrupt any ability Goins had to get his feet planted.

But Kawazaki's awesome! Apart from having an OBP way higher than the 3 that were mentioned previously (and the fact that he put up 0.8 fWAR last season) he's entertaining as hell. Hence why I would care if he got the call or not

He's fun but I like Diaz better, personally. Diaz will probably give you a better OBP than Kawasaki in the long-run. But you really can't evaluate these players with such a small sample size in the majors (Getz, maybe). Kawasaki 2013 fWAR is not realistic.

This is true. That's why I wanted Kawazaki and Diaz at the MLB level to split time and see what we have in our org right now.

 

But again, these players are very similar in final performance. They're all good defense, decent speed and black holes with the bat. We need an actual 2B not a revolving door of scrubs. If we're still somehow in it by draft day I see us going all in on Drew on a 3 year deal easily. No picks involved anymore

Split for pitcher match ups? I guess, though I'd rather have a guy that can play everyday... I think everyday reps leads to better performance unless they really can't hit lefty or righty.
