I made one small mistake in the draft (accidentally selected the wrong guy in a later round). Pretty happy with it otherwise. Now whether my strategy was smart or not remains to be seen in a year or two.

I feel like our drafts were similar in that we left some established talent on the table to take a chance on young players with elite upside. I'll need a few of Nyquist, Galchenyuk, Schenn, Smith, Murray, and Lindholm to develop into impact players in order to be pleased with my draft.

Goalie Reimer OTB for a forward.

Or you could just pluck Svedberg off the waiver wire for free!

Kudos to you. Im not sure Id have the patience to wait 3 or 4 years to compete in fantasy.

Part of my thinking was that if I have to rebuild in baseball eventually (not for a few years at least), getting a feel for things with the hockey could be valuable. Also with the later picks and the high draft pick I had, it made a certain amount of sense.

lol

I'd definitely own him if I didn't already have enough goalies

There are 2-3 guys I'd happily pick up if I needed a tender. Peter Mrazek is going to be stud eventually.

Yeah, I had Galchenyuk in the queue. Think you nabbed him right before me. It's a bit of a risky strategy, but I think the young hockey players also tend to be safer gambles than baseball players are.

I initially wanted to rebuild, but I saw the opportunity to make a few trades to improve my draft position and now I think my team is set in the short-run (as well as, potentially, long-run).

I have no idea if this is true or not, but I feel like there might be less attrition in general for hockey players. I had no issues with picking Marleau, and would have absolutely taken guys like Datsuyk, Zetterberg, the Sedins, Hossa etc... and felt pretty comfortable that I was getting 3+ years of solid production even though they're in their mid-late 30s. I really shy away from baseball players in that same age range.

I think hockey players produce much closer to their prime in their lower 30s than other sports. It definetly seems like their are a lot of high skill guys who put up great numbers in their late 30s though. I mean Jagr and Alfie put up some fantastic seasons as well as the guys you mentioned.

Yeah. And the 2015 draft has some great talent. Mcdavid will probably be top 5 in value right after he is drafted.

Yeah, maybe the dropoff isn't as severe. Also, a lot of the high skill guys don't rely just on speed, which is the thing most likely to decline quickest.

Most likely has to do with their coaches easing up their minutes as they get older, slowing down their decline offensively.

I wouldn't have had an issue, but for some reason none of those guys were ranked high. I mean, I know I incorporated age, but I still would've thought they'd be ranked higher. Closest thing I can think of would be that I nearly took Sharp over Bergeron. Wouldn't have had an issue with the age in general, although they were close enough for me that I figured why not.

How does waivers work in this league? Is it like in the DDL?

Yeah I think so. The framework rules should be the same as the DDL/BBDL.

Does everyone have a claim on at least one player? I claimed someone but doubt I can get him since I'm 17 on the priority list.

I don't. No roster spots.

No way am I wasting the #2 claim on anyone left right now.

Lol you're such a dickhead.

Why? The draft was yesterday and and I didn't draft any IR or NA guys. Anyone I wanted on the waiver wire I would have just taken...

I can understand keeping some guys on the watch list but yeah. I guess he wasn't at the draft so he has a gripe though.
