Frag Verified Member Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 Never ever bring PIM as a positive stat. Ever. Booting shutouts works fine for me. It's so random, it really shouldn't affect how owners build their teams.

Edit: I sent PMs/emails out about all that has transpired over the past day. I kinda like the shut out cat. sort of a wild card/equalizer that gives the matchup a bit of flavor. i wouldn't be opposed to removing it- but was wondering if it could be replaced with another goalie category. at least for this season. if we plan to change it for next season, folks have time to plan a draft strategy. this league is tremendously goalie dependent. i planned my draft around goalies. to replace a SO cat with an offensive skater stat will very much alter the league. the whole nhl is incredibly goalie dependent. stronger skaters and new metrics for analysis should result in massive increases in scoring but the goalies keep that at bay with their raw talent and ability. i think this league should reflect that. makes it more fun. So if we change it my request is to change it to a different goalie stat, and if it's being changed to an offensive stat, that it happen next year.
canadiansportsjunkie Verified Member Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 What did NJH change his name too?
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 I don't like changing the scoring cats personally
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 Especially right AFTER the draft.

Frag Verified Member Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 I picked Demers Did I miss something or did you guys skip me? Anyway, I picked Jeff Petry.
King Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 Here's the option for goaltending categories, Vanny: http://i.imgur.com/RISyiqd.png Replacing it with another category would be redundant anyway because the whole idea of removing shutouts is to take a little bit of dependence off of goalies.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 Doesn't Yahoo hockey now support 2 week finals? If so, that's a change that would be good imo.

GoldBull Verified Member Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 I voted no. While I agree that goalies are overweighted, I don't think that it's the right time to change categories after the keeper deadline and after the waiver draft. I'd suggest we look into it for next season.
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 SpeedyGose would be excellent. 100%. Ideal candidate.

IMO not cool to take dependence away from goalies. Teams are dependent on hot goalies. Goalies can win games single handed. Our league should reflect that. I'm cool with whomsoever replaces silver gun. Shot against looks like a cool cat if consensus is to replace shut outs. Edit. Day drinking and posting: not good bedfellows! Edited this post 4 times! Okay back to the jays and this England- Wales match!

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 Voted no. Should not make any changes to cats after the offseason is done. If anything you make it to change the following season.
King Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 For those who voted no, would you approve if shutouts were removed for the 16-17 season?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 Anyone looking to add some depth?
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 For those who voted no, would you approve if shutouts were removed for the 16-17 season? I'd be okay with it (I'm pretty indifferent), but I'd like to see at least one offensive category added in its place. After sleeping on shutouts last night, I just felt, even if the impact is very small, that it wasn't fair to change a scoring category right before the start of the season. Let's decide on exactly what we want to change now, and then put it into place for the start of 16-17. That'll give everyone a full year to prepare.

Yeah, adding an offense category isn't out of the question. Faceoff wins, imo.
canadiansportsjunkie Verified Member Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 I like faceoff wins as a stat
Frag Verified Member Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 I like faceoff wins as a stat I'm not so sure. Faceoff wins is a stat far more impacted by skill than shutouts. If we include a scoring stat like faceoff wins, then it should be included at least 2-3 years after the vote to give teams time to build their clubs in accordance with the new scoring categories. If anything, that should probably happen with shutouts, too.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Maybe you guys should have thought about the stats you were going to use more thoroughly at the start. This is all King's fault IMO.

This is all King's fault IMO. IIRC we used the categories from the What The Puck yearly league. So whoever made that. His fault
