If you want a top level goalie, you're probably going to have to overpay significantly (to the point of absurdity). Even suggesting equal rank probably causes the other party to hang up the phone.

Yup. No chance I entertain the idea of moving Lundqvist/Howard for a player valued at around the same range. Too difficult to replace.

My biggest undoing this season was not preparing to take a top shelf goaltender in the early rounds. I probably should have taken a goaltender in the 4th or 5th round as opposed to taking Pietrangelo or something.

It would just be tough to find a fit. You'll need a team with two legit #1s, which is what, 2-3 teams? Then one of those 2-3 teams needs to be A) motivated to add a top forward, and of the belief that the best way to accomplish A) is by moving a goalie.

 

I think the only way to add goaltending without a massive, massive overpayment is going to be acquiring them as prospects backups.

Yeah. At the time I thought it was OK. Now, that trade looks disastrous. Nichushkin should be the 2nd or 3rd piece in a deal for a starter.

Yeah I understand. I doubt you move Lundqvist and teams move a Carey Price etc. Need to be a perfect match. I wasn't going to win anything with Bernier as my No. 1 goaltender anyways, so trading him for ROR doesn't crush me by any means. I love ROR and I believe he can be a top-6 forward.

We both were a match. Other teams asked me about Bernier though I was offered crap. I'm a huge ROR fan, and I think this deal worked out well for both clubs. I wasn't going to win with Bernier as my No. 1 goaltender period, so I'm sure he holds more value as a No. 2 to another team with another viable No. 1 goalie.
