Bernier wasn't going to win me a championship anytime soon. I really like my offensive core now of Toews, Duchene, Landeskog, Galchenyuk, Tatar and O'Reilly moving forward along with some of my other pieces. I'm hoping Raanta or Darling get traded and get more playing time. Add another vet goalie into the mix possibly at some point in the offseason would really help.

Me and Spanky are alright. We will have our disagreements from time to time, though there are no hard feelings or grudges held towards each other.

The problem is that Bernier is the kind of vet goalie that you would be acquiring and to acquire a goalie like Bernier right now, it would be like double what you got originally. And that market isn't likely to change, as Spittin surprisingly eloquently put.

The other 17 teams had a fair and equal chance at making an offer or asking me about them, and they didn't. So what does that say? It told me there wasn't a huge market for them. You came in with a strong offer, though I told you I preferred a deal focused around a top young player already in the NHL.

 

As for Bernier/ROR, I wasn't raped at all. ROR was taken ahead of Bernier in the same round, and the guy notched close to 70 pts last season as a 23-year-old. Bernier wasn't anything spectacular even with playing time, so its not like I was going to ride him to a championship ever. ROR as a potential 70-80 pt player is more valuable to me moving forward than a mediocre Bernier.
