Who gets shifted for them? Should be Goins, will be Kratz. Rogers?

Will be Goins and Wagner probably. But Thole or Kratz (preferably Thole) has to go at some point.

Thole, Kratz and Sierra hang by a thread

Esmil Rogers can't be optioned unfortunately, because Buffalo would be the best place for him

It's unreal how different a Reyesless lineup is. AA was pretty much banking on a guy with injury history, not getting hurt on turf. An idiotic gamble.

I thought he got hurt in Florida this year and at KC last year on an awkward slide? Could be wrong I guess.

He missed far more time last year and the offense didn't struggle nearly as bad as they have this year...in all of 12 games.

EE, Rasmus and Lawrie's struggles are more to blame for the lack of offense than Reyes's absence over 12 games.

The offense is almost exactly the same as it was at this point last year

I meant over the period Reyes was absent. Reyes got hurt on game #10 last year, IIRC, so he was playing in the first 10 games last year and the offense was still cold, like you correctly point out.

I'm just saying that the offensive struggles are not because Reyes is on the DL. If guys like EE, Rasmus and Lawrie were hitting closer to their projections or career averages, Reyes's absence wouldn't be talked about as much.

It just looks like a good old offensive slump to me.

Reyes was raking last April though. Compare that to our stats out of SS right now.

We also have a healthy Melky (who would be a great #2 hitter behind Reyes), and better AB's from the Catcher position. A healthy Reyes would have been great to have last night for example. We are just handing AB's away at SS.

I completely agree that a healthy Reyes would be great to have. However, part of what I'm saying is that even with Reyes raking last year, the offense still struggled almost as much as this year. Remember, Lawrie was injured to start last year and Bonifacio and Izturis were at 2B as well so the offense was giving away AB's last year as well.

I just think that if EE, Rasmus and Lawrie weren't struggling as much as they are, the team could better-absorb Reyes's absence for 12-15 games.

I do think that it's a good sign that the team is 6-6 with the offense struggling so much. The question is, "is the solid pitching here to stay or is it a mirage?".

If the answer is yes, then I think we're all pretty confident the offense will do its part which could put this team in contention.

We'll see what happens.

If what had happened to Reyes had happened to any other player they wouldn't have hit the DL. They would have sat out a couple days. They were overly cautious with Reyes as they should have been. Reyes will have an impact on this season.

Reyes can't get here fast enough.... still need one of the other black holes Diaz or Goins to play second.

This bothers me. Reyes should be playing second base.... he is the worst defender of the four of them that can play short.
