Corporal Valdal Verified Member Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Needless to say, the move represents a disappointing step for the 26-year-old, who was once viewed as the eventual replacement for the legendary Derek Jeter. While it remains to be seen whether this means the end of his time in the New York organization, Nunez could well be headed elsewhere. Nunez first saw time with the big club back in 2010, and has compiled 827 plate appearance at the MLB level since that time. Over that stretch, Nunez has put up a .267/.313/.379 triple-slash with 10 home runs and 48 stolen bases. His glove work has been the real issue, however. Nunez was pegged as costing the Yanks a remarkable number of runs last year -- 28 by DRS and 20.6 by UZR -- in just 608 1/3 frames at short. His 2013 UZR/150 innings mark of -40.7 was the worst rate logged by any player who saw at least 500 innings in the field. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/04/yankees-designate-eduardo-nunez-for-assignment.html So should we pick this guy up to play SS/2B
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Tough call Better hitter than any middle IF we have except Reyes But I like this defense we have now and he's a butcher
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 I wouldn't be against it, but don't see him offering anything more than Izturis, Goins, Diaz, and Kawasaki.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Eduardo is an awful defender...........

He does have more potential than the other middle infielders. Give him a shot and if he looks bad I doubt he's much worse than what they have.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Stephen Drew please Hopefully.
Convo Verified Member Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Why exactly would we want a -WAR player?
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Why exactly would we want a -WAR player? Ask our GM, he has three of them in the middle infield already.
Convo Verified Member Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Ask our GM, he has three of them in the middle infield already. Goins and Kawasaki provided positive WAR in 2013 - I'm not saying but I'm just saying. Izturis' 2013 season was an aberration. Diaz hasn't even played enough. Just because Nunez has played in the majors longer doesn't make him worth considering. Nunez would be a downgrade over our current scrubs.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Why exactly would we want a -WAR player? Cause he has more potential than our other -WAR players?
Convo Verified Member Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Cause he has more potential than our other -WAR players? Don't we have enough guys with 'potential' on our team already? Also, what are the odds of a near 27-year old suddenly figuring it out after 4 seasons already in the majors (please don't answer, it's rhetorical)?
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Don't we have enough guys with 'potential' on our team already? Honestly let's just agree to disagree because this is a stupid topic. I like Nunez more than the other scrubs they are rostering, offensively he has much more potential than any of those guys and he has some defensive tools that might suggest he could improve. If you like Goins better then good for you, they're both bad players and not worth discussing.
