Most likely because Diaz and Kawasaki are similar players, with Diaz having a better glove.

Says who? Kawasaki looked fine defensively last year. Their bats aren't even comparable.

Diaz' career minor league slash line (3111 PA)

.230/.358/.297

Aw jeez

What a nice LARGE sample size too

No Kawasaki? WTF? Maybe don't want to have to lose Saki by DFAing him when Reyes is back in two weeks.

Why not option one of our 3 catchers when he comes back?

You lost me at "Reyes back in two weeks"

Can Seitzer turn me into a .300 hitter too??

He'd have to invite you to his house to take a good look at your swing. Anything's possible with the Seitzer though, so don't lose hope.

How could AA and Beeston not get desperate here? They must have received reassurance from the new head of Rogers that they at least have another few years to sort this s*** out.

This is not the behaviour of a person who thinks his job is on the line.

It's 15 days....hutch, morrow and McGowan will have a lot more to do with the fortunes of the season than a 15 day dl stint......look around the league...tons of teams have had injuries. If we can't weather the storm of a 15 day dl stint from one key guy, where it was highly probable that you were going to get that from that said guy....then they were done before they started. One loss and the sky is falling in...

He signed a minor league contract

They can send him back this year any time they want, can't they??

Diaz played on a world championship team last year. He played in a winning culture and does all of the little things well. He will have a fantastic influence on team chemistry in the clubhouse. He's a bulldog who just knows how to win.

This is my thinking as well. We'll have to continue to hope and pray...

lol @ Reyes being back in 2 weeks.

He's old and breaking down. He won't be back to 100% until the summer.

Come on, the issue is that 2B and middle infield depth was an issue since last year and they did nothing about it all off season.

At times like these, we should all try not to lose track of what's really important.

Sure, we have an injury prone shortstop that we're paying $18 million a season too and sure we gave up a ton of cheap, controllable talent to get him, and the other mediocre players with giant-sized contracts, assuring no payroll flexibility for the next four years.

But, at least we can take pride in the fact that our current shortstop hasn't said anything homophobic. That's whats really important here.

This is one of the reasons I hate that hillbilly f*** Gibbons. Reyes should not have been at short in Montreal. I felt funny hearing he was starting.
