HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 curveball is nasty when it's on, but it needs some consistency.
Gen.Disarray Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Man, that was sweet. Now time for the real thing!!
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 I hope the kid can get his command because if he does the sky is the limit he looked like he could be a good #2 pitcher. This year is going to be huge for him. If everything goes well you could see the Stro and Sanchise in the Rotation next year.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Thats illegal otherwise I would strongly consider it. Goins will bring defense and a lot of disapointing at-bats. I guess we'll find out. I still think he has a decent enough approach to be an average hitter ( .250 / .300 )
Doc Verified Member Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Everyone is upset that nothing was done this winter, but what can we do about it honestly. Nothing there is a reason for it, will we ever no why? Probably not, but we just have to ride it out, we have a good team it's just we're in a division filled with great teams so just ride it out right?
Candy Maldonado Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 I guess we'll find out. I still think he has a decent enough approach to be an average hitter ( .250 / .300 ) Is that replacement .7 WAR level?
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Great chance to see Sanchez on an MLB broadcast and he didn't disappoint. Stuff was as advertised and seemed to command his pitches well. Seems especially nasty in on right handed batters as the FB runs in on them. Seemed to be trying to hard for K at the end, but got bailed out by the ump, lol. No doubt that with some good results this year, he could move up the MLB prospects ranks as his current ranking is heavily based on stuff rather than results.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 That's not an average hitter unless they're a slugger lol. True, but hitting ninth with the D he brings, i think we'll take it. Anything better is gravy.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Average hitter = 100 wRC+. I would bet everything (if I bet) on Goins never reaching that over a reasonable sample. Really? I thought it was a bit lower than that, but then again i don't know these numbers like you guys do.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Is that replacement .7 WAR level? I bet you get picked on a lot. Everything will be ok.
Candy Maldonado Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 I bet you get picked on a lot. Everything will be ok. You should really stop making bets. You're going to be broke.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Again I'll say it: We know what the bat is. Replacement level bat at 2nd or slightly below. It's the defense that is the question. His small sample last year suggested he's a stud, but it's clearly unsustainable. If he's better than Darin Barney at 2nd, then he might be serviceable as a 1-1.5 WAR guy. If he's Andrelton Simmons of 2B then he could make 2 WAR or over. Chances are he's not better than these guys though. FRom the six weeks or so last plus this years SP, do you see him declining defensively? Right now his defense is in the same category with those guys. I don't see his defense declining.
theblujay Verified Member Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Really? I thought it was a bit lower than that, but then again i don't know these numbers like you guys do. The stat is based 100 as the average I believe
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 You should really stop making bets. You're going to be broke. Don't worry about it little man, it's not your money. You think $50 means anything? Lol..
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 100 is set as average. Just like 0 WAR is replacement, because WAR means wins above replacement. Oh,ok. Thanks..
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 I don't feel comfortable at all with putting him with those guys with the small sample. The sample is small, but i feel comfortable putting him there.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Great day! Over 50,000 fans Great 1994 Expos showing Jays win Morrow pitched well No one got hurt Met kingcat during the game Nice and warm outside post game Headed to Moishes for a giant steak before flying home Life is good

Probably not, but we just have to ride it out, we have a good team it's just we're in a division filled with great teams so just ride it out right? We've changed a lot without changing a lot if that makes any sense. Morrow pitched 50 innings last year and he was pitching hurt. That's a complete right off, so we've replaced Morrow with Morrow..lol. We had Hutch as a member of the Jays, but he was recovering from injury. We've replaced Johnson with Hutch. We've replaced Happ with McGowan. Essentially 60% of our rotation is different than last year. We replaced league worst defense and offense out of the catcher position with a guy who might be able to hit league average production at the catcher position and a guy who isn't a defensive wizard, but he's better than JPA and is a good game caller. Melky played like a broken down senior last year. It made sense when you found out his injury. We're replacing what was a bad player with the same guy but he's healthy and looks to be a good player again. The guys also missed a lot due to injury..we just need more luck with staying healthy. We've changed a lot without changing much at all.
CHRIS Verified Member Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 I'm glad Sanchez finished things so effectively, but now I'm partly worried that AA is thinking about how he should make Sanchez a closer.

LOL. Seriously though, his fastball seems to have some nasty late movement that runs in on RH hitters. He also struck out the lefty hitter with a nice change up. Extreme SSS, but let's face it, if he had walked 2 and been hit hard, some would be reacting to that as well. A good, strong season with improved command would be welcome. I certainly don't think he'll lack motivation after getting a taste of the big stage today in front of 50K fans. I think I saw him looking at the crowd in amazement in the 9th inning.

I don't think so. I think he'll be called up replace the least effective starter as long as it's not early enough to start his arbitration clock ( I guess June 1st - ish).

I'd rather see Sanchez have a full season of AA and AAA ball. But if in July he is dominating AND his BB/9 is around 2.5 or less, should be considered. There are too many other MLB experienced alternatives. Sanchez has to be dominating the way Hutchison was before he was called up.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
