Who will replace JPA?

I think he means he's irrelevant because not much is expected of him except provide excellent defense, which he will. If he provides a. 240/.300 type bat hitting ninth, he will just be an excepted piece of the line up. The only way the masses go off on Goins is if he's hitting below 200.

 

I'm with you on that. I think the best thing Goins can do is spend a lot of time with the hitting coach/extra BP while sharpening his eye at the plate. Good D + good ABs will be really good for 2nd base, it's not a big problem if one of the 9 hitting slots won't produce, especially if we can get solid defence up the middle.

I disagree with this pretty strongly. I started hating him in April and was neutral before that. But I know people like NJH and BTS were pretty adamant about him being s*** for a while.

 

Wasn't #top10catcher before the season even started? We became aware of JP's awful defense a while back, coupled with his inability to draw a walk was slowly garnering up a serious hate storm. I think the only reason people were never too hard on him is because they thought that JP was just a stepping stone to d'Arnaud.

There's a big difference between thinking someone is not appropriate for a given role and hating the guy and wish he would go away.

I don't remember if you were ever on the old board, but I think it's fair to say that our dislike of JP intensified when we became aware that he was (I think dead last) one of the worst catchers defensively in the league when factoring in framing numbers. Some had hopes that he would work on it and at least be average and he could combine that with above-average PRODUKSHUN for a catcher.

FWIW, the guys who have the least likable personalities are probably the guys who are going to perform well - Bautista, Lawrie, Buelrhe - so they aren't going to get too much hate. Lind and Navarro might get some hate for laziness issues.

Navarro has been busting his fat ass all spring. He's been given a huge opportunity and I doubt he will be dumb enough to take his shot at being the number 1 guy lightly.

 

Not sure where you were last off season or even 2012 because most of the board knew JPA was a sack of s*** in 2012 and were infuriated that he wasn't traded last off season. in particular I remember how most of us went nuts when JPA came out last off season and said that AA had told him that he wasn't being traded.

 

so saying people didnt hate him until late last season is being oblivious to reality.

Wait who actually hates on Buerhle? The guy is the definition of durable, even with his 86 mph fastballs. I also don't get why people hate Lawrie? I mean sure off and on the field he seems like he shoots red bull, but he's a guy that gives it all while playing, and that's what really matters, IMO he isn't in the same city as JPA regarding douchiness. Bautista I sort of get because he does complain too much but sometimes you take it if his arrogance doesn't reach Braun or A-Rod territory.

Go to the old board and do a search. I warned about Arencibia prior to his ever coming up in 2010. I heavily criticized his fielding in early 2011 and took a ton of heat, not from all but many people.

 

By the end of 2011 there were at least 7-10 posters who had given up in him as a catcher. On Opening Day 2012 the JPA Egregious Tracking Thread began!

dude was making it up.... I suppose with the dog thing, but that has never effected his on field play. MB is a pro's pro.
