Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 My point is his stats over the past four years are IRRELEVANT and NL aided. Wow. And its a terrible point. I guess Jose Reyes' past stats mean nothing either? He will be a .250 hitter, since his numbers were NL aided. What about other pitchers like Cliff Lee, Stephen Strasburg, Jose Fernandez? They would all suck if they came to the AL right? Strasburg must project to have a 4.00 ERA in the American League
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Unless, perhaps, he was playing injured for part of 2013 and wasn't at his best What projection system says ERA jumps 0.3 runs from age 38 to age 39? The same system that says a 39 year old body will find it difficult to sustain a professional sporting season injury free.
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 WAR is not NL aided. Nor are past statistics irrelevant. This.
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 The same system that says a 39 year old body will find it difficult to sustain a professional sporting season injury free. You should sell this system to teams. You'll probably be a gagillionaire.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 The same system that says a 39 year old body will find it difficult to sustain a professional sporting season injury free. Ok... so now you are changing your argument to injuries.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Is this for real? I don't know. Im going by what you claimed in earlier posts.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 It's called common sense. I hope you aren't claiming to possess even a shred of common sense when it comes to baseball.

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Gruber honestly, you don't have to agree with "advanced" metrics. But you need to understand them first: http://www.fangraphs.com/library/ I never said I don't agree with them, I just don't live and die by them. The human element has and always will be an important part of the assessment process.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Lesson to everyone else from this thread: If you're going to argue something, at least research what you're talking about first before making a fool of yourself. I don't think that gruber92 realizes he is wrong
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Lind delivers This lineup is deep
Rotator Verified Member Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 lawrie hits one that gets stuck in the fence
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I never said I don't agree with them, I just don't live and die by them. No, it seems that you choose to completely ignore them. The human element has and always will be an important part of the assessment process. And what makes you qualified to assessments?
