NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 They have an eight man pen, so if he can only go four innings that's okay. It was the right decision.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2014 Author Posted March 26, 2014 why are u surprised? did you see happ and rogers performance yesterday.. I'm not surprised, I'm happy.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 As per The Fan 590. WOW.. Man I wish I was going to the home opener. Tanaka vs McGowan.....
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I am ecstatic....McGowan has earned this chance and I hope he shines as a starter once again.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 So Morrow is slotted for the 4th spot instead of the 5th now?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Awesome news When will Morrow go?
SAAviour Verified Member Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 So HAPPy about this!! Love McGowan, makes me feel good about our rotation. Wish I lived in TO for that home opener.
flafson Verified Member Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 So how does our BP look like? Jansen Cecil Delabar Santos Loup Redmond Rogers Jeffress
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 So how does our BP look like? Jansen Cecil Delabar Santos Loup Redmond Rogers Jeffress Yep. I'm a little surprised Jansen isn't starting the season on the DL but that's good news I suppose. The only wild card right now is Reyes and his health. If he's day to day, they'll have to shorten that bullpen to accomodate another infielder.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I'm okay with this news, hopefully he can provide us a few solid starts before getting hurt.
AngryBird Verified Member Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 This starting rotation looks comparable to the Josh Towers and Gustavo Chacin days, only difference is we actually had a proven horse in the prime of his career in Halladay and not a two year wonder in Dickey.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I'm okay with this news, hopefully he can provide us a few solid starts before getting hurt. I've said some disparaging things about McGowan and have been very skeptical of his comeback. I wasn't a fan of his contract but given the absence of alternatives and given that the team has held on to him for so long, they might as well run with him and get the most of out of him while he's healthy for once. This is the perfect opportunity for the McGowan contract to provide value for both parties.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 So how does our BP look like? Jansen Cecil Delabar Santos Loup Redmond Rogers Jeffress Exactly Great BP The bench is the problem
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Happy for him. I guess at this point it never hurts to try. If he gets hurt he gets hurt. Exactly right I'm excited about this He totally deserves it and I hope he does great
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 If he gurts hurt, he went out the right way, doing what he wanted, with no regrets I'd imagine
fireballW Verified Member Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 YAY!!! Now please don't let him get injured in his next spring start
flafson Verified Member Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Did he actually face any MLB hitters in Spring?
BlueJaysGirl Verified Member Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Man, this pitching rotation will be fun to watch. Results could be horrible, but I'd much rather watch Dustin and Hutch pitch than Happ and Redmond. Dickey is always entertaining to watch pitch (love the knuckleball) and MB is fun to watch, given his machine-like speed in working. This'll be great.
BallsDeep Verified Member Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Yeah Dustin and Hutch bring more upside that's for sure. Just need to keep healthy.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Dickey, Hutchison, Buehrle, Morrow, and McGowan is probably the highest upside rotation out of all the internal options. It is not without massive risk (mostly injury), but at this point, I'd rather take a risk with a high ceiling than settle with Happ, Rogers, Redmond, etc. Those latter three will probably end up starting games for the Jays anyway at some point, but at least they are willing to try McGowan first.
Brenner Verified Member Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 This a real boom or bust pitching staff. The chance of bust is much more likely but you can't deny that boom potential. Would you take the over or under on 2 of 5 of our opening starters being on the DL by all-star break? The vegas line should probably be 2.5 or 3?
8D Verified Member Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 LMFAO. I didn't see this coming. I'm probably going to get slammed, but I liked the extension at the time and I'm still OK with it now. But him starting and for the home openner is kind of funny. That's the blue jays for ya... I'm still rooting for McGowan though! Who doesn't love a comeback story?!
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Rogers and Redmond in the bullpen isn't good idea; they should be pitching as starters in the minors as part of rotation depth. Damn options.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Rogers and Redmond in the bullpen isn't good idea; they should be pitching as starters in the minors as part of rotation depth. Damn options. Well, one should be in AAA and one in BP as swing man, ideally
TheHurl Site Manager Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 if an ACL flies into the crowd are you allowed to keep it? For the record I have a friend still selling 2 more tickets for the opener. Row 8 seats 3 and 4 section 519. $50 each
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 He may be right. Think about who you said might be right.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Think about who you said might be right. Well he IS right sometimes I just hate the way he conveys it sometimes
