Jarrod Parker is set to undergo Tommy John Surgery, and will miss the rest of the season according to MLB. Big blow to the A's..

Wow. ouch.

If only the A's had a dumber GM we could pawn one of our fringe starters on them.

And the A's would probably turn him into a 5 war guy and pawn him off for massive return at the deadline.

LOL.so true

Romero represents the A's in the all star game then gets traded for a top 10 prospect just before he has another meltdown. While the Jays are paying a chunk of his salary to boot. LOL

I guess I'll be the one to point out none of these injuries have happened to other teams in the AL east

If I ever have a kid, I'll teach him to throw with both arms. You mess up one, you still have the other. Divide the workload by two and save both arms. Or have a pitcher that can start 40+ games a year, 20 each arm. I don't understand why people don't raise their kids like this. There's thousands of switch hitters but only a handful of switch pitchers in baseball history.

It's not that hard to throw from your weak side. I've hit my target from a pitching mound 60-feet away throwing lefty. They were garbage probably 30 mph but they still made it. I can only imagine how much better they'd be if I'd learn to throw lefty since age 5.

Also I think the Dan Quisenberry style of underhand pitching could make a comeback. There's a reason why Lawrie's sister could pitch every day with her man-arms and that's because the underhand style of throwing puts much less stress on the arms. Teams would be smart to take some fringe prospects and turn them into submariners and what you lose on velocity you gain in health and a short-term gain in pitching at an unfamiliar/tricky angle until batters adjust.

There's a big difference between straight underhand and submarine. Submarine I believe puts at least as much stress on the elbow as a normal slot does (probably more), and the elbow is where the bulk of injuries seem to be right now.

You're right on the elbow for sure. I recall that Tekulve and Quisenberry were pretty consistent and injury-free (ignoring Quisenberry's career ended with an injury) although being an RP might have had a lot to do with it.

!

that's like what Jimmy Key's father did with him. He was completely right handed except for pitching.

I started out as a lefty but had a bad accident a few years ago. Lost a couple of inches of bone and 2/3 of the strength.

I started out righty but when I was like 4 I started writing lefty just cause I felt like it and I've been a lefty ever since lol

That's what happens when you don't practice safe masturbation.

My gf can shoot both ways in hockey, and used to keep an extra stick of both types on the bench in case she got moved around on the ice.

I envy the ambidextrous, only use my left proficiently to control a bike, really.

I had a GF that went both ways once.

Being ambidextrous is a state of mind. You can use any hand for anything as long as you are trained to do so as a child. Even as an adult you can learn.

I could only ever pitch with my right hand, as far as commanding breaking/off speed goes but with my fastball I was within 3-4 miles of my right hand with my left.

I pitched right handed, hit right handed and fielded left handed.

I would be nice if Passan's books provided some answers but judging by this it seems more likely that he'll provide anecdotes, dance around the subject for awhile and reveal nothing. He's not really the writer I'd trust with this subject in the first place.

Mets are a mess

Major financial problems

Signing the wrong free agents

Harvey is not happy

Niese feels like a time bomb

They're playing with Syndergaard's service time (on it's own a smart move I suppose)

Despite having good quality arms the team feels troubled

Soccer really helps to be able to use both feet the same, since it's one of the few sports where switching on the fly is actually beneficial.

being able to fly would be way more beneficial.
