Now that he has no options but to change he might be worth taking a risk on because he has tremendous raw power. I'm telling you it could happen. Not saying I necessarily want it to happen. So strictly as a platoon DH with Lind? Maybe if he listened to Seitzer and actually took some balls but even then, that is a valuable bench space used up on a limited position player. Plus his physical presence might despair our pitchers.

He then tries to coast on "said" talent.

admin Site Manager Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 lol you can see at the very last split second as he was about to catch the ball the railing caught his eye and he looked at it and dropped the ball. None of us want to see someone fail, but JP's arrogance and the fact that he thinks he can do no wrong, makes the whole thing somewhat enjoyable. I've posted this atleast five times, but I want to know why AA didn't get him a catching coach when they knew he was absolutely terrible defensively.

Teams usually make sure to always have an ex-catcher on the coaching staff just for this purpose. Under Farrell, it was Wakamatsu. Under Gibbons, it's Gibby himself. Under Cito, it was Tenace.
Convo Verified Member Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Inexcusable I thought it was Don Wakamatsu
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 I thought it was Don Wakamatsu No. He was bench coach wasn't he? They had a "roving catching instructor". I can't think of his name Sal Fasano?.. looked after the whole system including the minors. Zaun called it inadequate at various times.

It's always done by a member of the staff. I really don't understand Juiced's preocupation with this.

NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Hopefully they keep playing him. It's hilarious.

And no, I can't remember hearing the term "catching coach" or at least not full time. You have the manager, the bench coach, the 1st and 3rd base coaches who also serve as infield, outfield and base running coaches, hitting coach, the pitching and bullpen coaches and that's it.

There was something like "He works really well with the pitchers". Obv the guy is pulling s*** out of his ass.

Brenner Verified Member Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 and to not always swing for the fences, even with 2 strikes, 0-2 counter or whatever the situation... But you don't want him clogging up the base paths with anything but a dinger!

I really don't understand Juiced's preocupation with this. Other MLB teams have catchers that can catch the ball and don't bring in terrible defensive catchers to be their starting catcher. Pretty sure Zaun has asked the same question before. “How do you expect a guy to get any better if he doesn’t have anyone to work with?” asked Zaun. “They should add someone to the staff. John Gibbons was a catcher, but he’s the manager and he can’t be coaching the kid too. What they should do is promote Sal Fasano (the organization’s roving catching instructor). He’s a tremendous teacher of that position. But I also did read Wak was working with him. Honestly I could see JPA as too arrogant to listen to help, and continue to do things his own way, ie throw from his knees.
