B.) Why would they sign another starter they've already got like 6+ capable guys?

My first thought was oh no, they'll snap up one of the SP's, but they already have Lester, Buch, Peavy, Lackey, Doubront, Webster. Crazy the type of rotation depth you get when you can actually develop your own SP's.

 

I wonder if they bring back Drew, and move Bogarts to 3B.

With a brand new two-year, $26-million US contract, Ryan Dempster chose to stay with his new team this spring rather than make the trek to Arizona to join his countrymen on the international baseball stage.

 

"I'm going to be pulling for those guys [on Canada's national team] and hoping they do well, but this is what my situation is now," Dempster said Sunday after pitching three scoreless innings of one-hit ball against the New York Yankees.

 

"[Playing in the WBC] probably isn't the best thing for me to be doing physically while I'm trying to get ready for the season."

Basically, he's not retiring, so the Red Sox can place him on the restricted list rather than the DL, meaning they don't have to pay him this year. He was on MLB network radio today and he explained that his neck is really f***ing with him right now, so he knew he couldn't start and rather than maybe be effective as a reliever, he went this route to give it a full year to heal
