G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 12, 2014 Author Posted February 12, 2014 It says he will retire AFTER the 2014 season And for the record I wasn't scoping out his Facebook page, I swear. News tricking around...
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 After the 2014 season, yep. You should add that distinction to the title!
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 12, 2014 Author Posted February 12, 2014 Somewhere, Stephen Drew has a hard on and is frantically calling his agent
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 12, 2014 Author Posted February 12, 2014 The worst part of this is that now we'll be subjected to another Rivera-style farewell tour and crap. Nauseating thought...
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Top-3 DH 1-Eggar 2-Big Papi 3-Jeter
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 12, 2014 Author Posted February 12, 2014 Top-3 DH 1-Eggar 2-Big Papi 3-Jeter So do Yankees sign Drew to play SS and use Jeter as DH?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 12, 2014 Author Posted February 12, 2014 Joel Sherman @Joelsherman1 4m Jeter put on his Facebook page that he was retiring. Talked to #Yankees exec who did not know it was coming. Joel Sherman @Joelsherman1 4m But I have confirmed with his agent, Casey Close, that Jeter is indeed, retiring.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 12, 2014 Author Posted February 12, 2014 ARod would have gotten in trouble for posting this on Facebook without the front office knowing first (though they'd be thrilled with the retirement news LOL) For Jeter it will be OK #DoubleStandard

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 12, 2014 Author Posted February 12, 2014 This is unfortunately good news for the Yankees. So they don't have to pay him 20M+ to be a DH in 2015 as a "thank you"??
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 The agents for at least 4 FA shortstops next year just got a belated Christmas present lol.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 So do Yankees sign Drew to play SS and use Jeter as DH? No. Jeter was a DH who played at SS for long period of time

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 I'm very sad about this, only because the Yankees will immediately get cheaper and better at SS starting in 2015. Even if the replacement ends up being a blind monkey with AIDS. I was hoping Jeter would be around another several miserable years to chase Pete Rose's hit record and the Yankees would be crucified if they ever tried to "Posada-ize him". MLB would have loved it if he wiped Rose off the record books. Selig would be on the first train to fellatio there.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Alex Gonzalez, Edgar Renteria, Rey Ordonez, Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez from 1997 taken for Sports Illustrated. My internet history now features "derek jeter alex rodriguez shirtless" I guess Nomar was judged too uggly for this.

bendera3 Verified Member Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Alex Gonzalez was a good looking dude.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Too bad the options for the Yanks at SS in 2015 are Asdrubal Cabrera, JJ Hardy and Jed Lowrie. Hardy's likely to resign with Baltimore, Hanley Ramirez is 100% likely to resign with the Dodgers, Lowrie is as bad or worse defensively as Derek Jeter. and can't stay healthy (except for last year. At least Oakland has Addison Russell on the way this year if Lowrie gets hurt.) Asdrubal Cabrera is a 2B playing SS, and will likely be supplanted by Lindor by midseason, an elite prospect who could be much better than Cabrera. And the trade market isn't going to work due to the Yankees having so few chips to deal.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Drew is going to sign a one year deal somewhere now and he will hit the market next year and the yanks will give him a butt load of money.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Drew is going to sign a one year deal somewhere now and he will hit the market next year and the yanks will give him a butt load of money. Maybe, but if it's for less than the QO it would be quite the black mark for Boras.

I doubt many teams will give up a 1st round pick for one year unless 1) Their top pick is protected or 2) They think they are one SS away from contending.
