GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Nope. Very little room for surplus.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 But I truly believe we will regret this signing. Contracts are going up, not down. Maybe 2 years from now we will scoff at this amount - kind of like how we scoffed at contracts for guys like Werth or Jackson. I don't really even regret us not paying for Darvish (at least once you spread the posting fee out over the contract length). Everything had to break right for that to be worth it, and Texas is very lucky that it did. This Tanaka deal is WAY worse than the chance on Darvish was.

Smokey Verified Member Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 We would have seen these same results for Darvish, yet almost everyone says they would have signed him. Good idea for a poll. That's not true at all. Not only did Darvish cost a lot less, but he was also supposed to be the best pitcher to ever come out of Japan with numbers that exceeded Tanaka's. The Jays were also in a much better position at the time to take that type of risk and the level of outrage can't even be compared. Quit making s*** up.
