tercet Verified Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Ivan Nova will probably be better than any pitcher on the Jays' staff, and he's clearly New York's number four. I'm willing to wager up to 5k, possibly more on that this isnt true.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 The concept of windows of contention is so absurd when the richest team in baseball is in your division. If the Yankees miss the playoff next year it will be their first back to back non playoff seasons in twenty years. The yanks were old and vulnerable...last year..one year singular....lol...and the jays blew up...ahh..thank goodness I'm old enough to remember the 13 year drought the yanks went through...
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I'm willing to wager up to 5k, possibly more on this. okay that's absurd....Nova pitched well last year but has been up and down...he was not very good in 2012...not that I'm offering to take your bet...but I'm sure you can find a bookie that would take that at even money all day long..

Im just betting against bts because he is a giant douchebag with as big of a e-peen as anyone I've ever met on the internet.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 People have been predicting the Yankees' imminent demise since I joins the forum ~10 years ago. It just isn't going to happen. They're the richest team in baseball and losing is unacceptable to them. Last time they missed the playoffs they signed Burnett, Teixeira, and Sabathia and won the WS. This offseason's spending should have been obvious to anyone paying attention. You are right....the yanks spend more than anyone else....there's only one solution...move the jays to Vancouver and get out of this division..lol
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Watch Pineda come back healthy and turn into a world killer for tehm now as well.

I misread your post.....I'm on your side....I thought you would take nova over the 5 guys on the jays staff...lol

JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 175 mil for someone who never pitched in the MBL, what a joke. I'll be cheering for our bats to plummel him in the first few innings, send him to the showers early in humiliation. As if he can pitch in the AL, how insulting. Now lets sign some real MLB pitchers.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 We're f***ed.... thanks, AA! You do realize in order to have signed tanaka the jays would have not only had to meet that offer...they would have had to have beat it....like 7 years 190....this board would have erupted in disgust if the jays had spent that much money on tanaka
xposbrad Verified Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Think this puts the Yanks at #1 in the div imo. They needed an ace and they got him, and most people believe Tanaka is just that. They might have a slight infield weakness but every team has a weakness, but overall I think they just locked in first.

The jays still have a much better offensive lineup imo than the yanks....but we need a lot of upside surprises in the rotation....come on AA let's sign an arm....

There's nfw this MLB rookie is worth that kind of money.
xposbrad Verified Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Watch Pineda come back healthy and turn into a world killer for tehm now as well. reports have him at full strength and fighting for a spot in the rotation, if he's healthy, his upside is tremendous. They have been very cautious with him, but he's still very young, he will most likely be a very solid pitcher this year with limited innings.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 We're f***ed.... thanks, AA! In all seriousness though, I can't see any scenario where we finish higher than 4th. Baltimore isn't as good as they were the last two years. I think Davis will regress slightly and teh pitching depth isn't overly great...but they'll still be there though. Best case scenario, the Rays trade Price for youth and some of their younger pitchers struggle. We might have an outside shot at the 2nd WC in that case.... But highly unlikely. The AL is stacked, wow.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 changes my projections for the Yanks as I feel that they lacked pitching depth (they have less need for full health). I really think that they were given a great financial opportunity with the A-Rod suspension and should have taken advantage of it...but it's the Yanks, they really don't need that.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 that just closed the Jays window. last year was the year to do it. too bad AA f***ed things up.

He hasn't pitched one inning in the MLB, lets see how he handles himself with the big bats before declaring him an ace.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 If the Jays finish last again, AA is pretty much going to get fired. I think we're going to see some crazy, reckless s*** happen in the next few weeks. Really wouldn't be surprised to see them sell the farm for Price now. The pressure is obviously on AA right now. This is not good.

Meh it's close the yanks have a lot of pro hitters who take good ab's

TheEndIsNigh Verified Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Baseball is a joke man, always the same teams every year signing the good players. makes being a Jays fan depressing knowing we will never get a guy like darvish, tanaka, seems no one really wants to sign here either.
Davie Verified Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Too much money for a guy that isnt even projected to be better than Darvish. $25m a year for this guy, thats insane.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Ellsbury Jeter Beltran Tex McCann Soriano Ichiro Gardner Nunez That really isn't a terrible lineup. If Ellsbury and Gardner perform to their potential they're going to be tough.

Debateable, the Jays offense is too easy to shut down, not patient or smart enough at the plate, not enough professional bats. I also expect Joey bats to continue declining this year.

This is not good. Given the current state of the farm, that wouldn't be such a big deal. Sadly though I don't think the Rays want the farm, they wan't EE and they just might get him.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Meh it's close the yanks have a lot of pro hitters who take good ab's the lineup still has Johnson, Roberts, jeter, texiera and Soriano in it....some old injury risks there....I don't think the jays score a ton more runs than the yanks...but I think they will score more...they scored 62 more runs last year and the jays still finished well back of them..
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Given the current state of the farm, that wouldn't be such a big deal. Sadly though I don't think the Rays want the farm, they wan't EE and they just might get him. that would be suicide....given the salary escalation you can't trade a guy who's on that contract bringing that production....I'd rather overpay for one of the three starters out there than trade 3 years of EE for 2 years of Price....filling one hole and creating another will not get the jays where they need to be...
