TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Per his FB Page Lots of folks keep asking, so I'll just confirm it: I am not returning to Rogers Sportsnet this coming season. Wonder if he wants to focus on writing and national Fox/TBS broadcasts, or if he was forced out? Follows the announcement of Jack Morris returning as the 2nd play by play guy, and I remember last season after Ashby left, Dirk and Wilner were rumored to be in the running. Maybe he was pissed he was passed over? Either way, I enjoyed his realism and no holds barred commentary. The JPA hissy fit was classic.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Bob Elliott mentioned this a while ago. Not surprised but I'll miss him.

RBIs and clutchiness are here to stay! *vomit*
Jays Verified Member Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 He was getting too deep into advanced stats. We can't have that.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Ban I identify with him. Broken english and broken Spanish
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 I identify with him. Broken english and broken Spanish There's a difference between broken and vodka-slurred.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 I identify with him. Broken english and broken Spanish LOL He doesn't even say "Martinez" right
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 This blows though I like Hayhurst. He's like a poor man's Keith Law (LOL that my phone tried to change Hayhurst to Bathurst)
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 LOL He doesn't even say "Martinez" right Marteenis!
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Kind of lame. I guess Zaun and his right winged baseball traditionalism gets to just wash over everything by default now.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I only disagree with Zaun maybe 60-70% of the time. At least he had the sense to lambaste Arencibia.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Zaun is a grip it and rip it type of talking suit. I tend to find his analysis to either be right on point, or catching air.
Ehjays Verified Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I wish both Zaun and Hayhurst were out Bring back Tony Kubek
43211234 Verified Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Zaun is perfectly fine when his analysis is kept to in-game topics. For some reason McCown and the people at sportsnet think he should be analyzing organizational moves, which he is embarrassing in.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Zaun just tries to be the baseball version of Don Cherry lol. Zaun played as a Sabermetric (12% walk and .344 OBP) but speak as a "AA, Jack-Z or Amaro"
Ehh Verified Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Very sad, he actually used stats to back his arguments up.
Jays Verified Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Very sad, he actually used stats to back his arguments up. Zaun uses stats... home runs, RBI's and that stat he engineered himself that factors in RBI's and clutchness and all those important things.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Zaun uses stats... home runs, RBI's and that stat he engineered himself that factors in RBI's and clutchness and all those important things. I had finally forgotten about that idiotic stat you bastard.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Meh... He used big words and stats speak but a lot of what he said was bs.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 If I had to guess I'd say that Hayhurst ends up on ESPN. I'd love for him to write about the inside of the Jays head office but I seriously doubt he was ever given any access. So instead we'll get a fictional book about a horny, badly dressed, former MLB catcher who uses his local small "c" celebrity status to get laid occasionally, while hitting on every girl in the city.
LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 I wonder what this means for Baseball Central

wilko Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 I wonder what this means for Baseball Central Sam probably went on an eating binge after hearing this news.
