So why didn't Griffin point out a single trade that AA missed out on because another GM didn't want to deal with him? And the Fister trade doesn't count, there should've been at least 5-10 GM's willing to give Dombrowski a better return than what he got. There was recently a report of a trade involving the Jays that was nixed because of a failed physical by one of the players involved.

I'm willing to be critical of AA, but not based on some article by a guy who was probably praising him after the 2 major trades last off season.

maybe gms don't want to deal with AA because he demands neil walker for adam f***ing lind. That would piss me off if i was the pirates.

Yeah, maybe Beeston should've stepped in and taken over the negotiations like he did when AA reportedly asked the Red Sox for Buckholz in return for Farrell.

I'm not even going to read this thread. I just came in here to say one thing. This is a waste of your time.

No his article isn't "interesting". It's not even remotely interesting. I don't have to read it to know that. None of these writers know a damn f*** about anything in the Blue Jays front office. Unless he has quotes from Beeston or Rogers or someone else above AA on the Blue Jays totem pole, stating clearly that AA is on thin ice, everything else is complete speculated ********. These writers are desperate for something to write, and those are the times where garbage like this comes out. There is absolutely no indication from the Blue Jays FO to say that Anthopoulos' job is in danger. Stop giving these morons reads on their articles.

This is just going to be another redundant AA-bashing thread, of which we've already had a countless amount.

I was wondering the same thing?

As was I. In 2013, Lind had the 32nd highest wRC+ of all players, on all teams, in both leagues.

Edit: That's of players with at least 500 PAs.

The thing is that most 5'9 guys can't throw 95 mph.

The thing is that most 5'9 guys can't keep throwing over 95 Mph for long period of time; Stroman was considered as a Starter not only for their 95 Mph heat, his secondary stuff helped him a lot (Motherf***er Slider)

Every day I see guys under 6 feet height (18, 19 and 20 years old) throwing over 90's Mph and they aren't signed.

Some people don't seem to realize how well he hits RHP, I don't get it he rakes basically every year against them, and he's on a great contract?! I'm sure the Birds can land a decent bat to hit LHP, we're talking about 200 PA's here.

But they prefer to use the roster spot on an 8th reliever. Never seem to have interest in a Johny Gomes, or giving Mauro Gomez or someone a shot at that.

Out of the box idea... They should get another full time outfielder and start the season platoon Melky and Lind. Melky probably gets 500 at bats anyway.

If Bautista/Rasmus/EE/Melky are all healthy such that playing time for Melky is a problem, then things are going good anyway. Otherwise Melky gets playing time anyway (or is injured anyway).

Boy, as others have said, the lack of news is driving people nuts. We're reduced to debating the below speculative garbage from Griffin which, if true, would actually say more about Dombrowski than about AA:

"When right-hander Doug Fister was traded to the Nats in November, Anthopoulos was surprised and indicated the Tigers surely knew he was interested, that he would have liked a last chance to bid on the talented starter. Would he have been given the opportunity two years ago? Perhaps."

So "perhaps" Dombrowski would rather get a worse package than deal with Anthopoulos. Perhaps, the lack of moves is making Griffin's job a little more difficult and he couldn't do better than come up with this garbage, thus hinting at some incompetence on his part.

Discussing this very subject right now on XM. Said that Griffin's article wasn't credible. Also that if it was true, shame on the GM that added to this article. Said, that AA has always kept things quiet, and that it is his job to gather information. That might tick off some writers. Thinks a lot of these articles come from the winter meetings where some guy has a few drinks, and mentions some little thing, and a month later these type of articles appear.

As far as the Detroit trade goes, said that it was common knowledge that the Jays don't want to trade Stroman or Sanchez, so who else were they going to use in that trade.

Goins, Nolin and a reliever like Cecil would've been more than DET got in return for Foster...

But perhaps that is not what Detroit wanted? Jays fans on this board think Goins is filler, Nolin had one terrible start in the majors. So that really means the only proven player was Cecil.

Well if they didn't want filler they got the wrong package back. Lombardozzi has proven terrible. Ray is a back end guy with similar risk and upside to Nolin. Cecil is a better lefty than Krol.

Regardless of who was in the trade, I don't think you can assume that the reason Dombrowski didn't trade with AA was because of something that AA did. He didn't trade with 28 other GM's that all need pitching either. Griffin is weak and this article was a perfect example of making something out of thin air.

The rumours are Drombo didn't shop Fister at all. Which is why they got stuck with an underwhelming return.

Everyone see Moneyball?

Where the fictional Beane is making calls on trades trying to get something done, no bs..

Make it can work a little like that. Not the wise way obviously but might be reality..

Maybe AA has a rep of circling his tail and people dont like dealing with him.

Think of it this way, youre a car salesman and you have this guy thats literally called you like 50 times inquiring about cars youre selling and gaging the asking price..making you think hes just educating himself on the market.. Do you start seeing conversations with the guy a waste of time?

Obviously its still your reaponsibility to get the best price for the car.. You'd obviously ideally want the GM to call alll 29 teams and say "so and so" is for sale..but human nature.. it may not go down thay way. They may just pick their own handful of deals and do it that way.

Certainly works like that in fantasy bb many times:)

It seems like AA knew about the trade well ahead of time (and indicated most GMs did if I remember right). He seemed clearly frustrated, and said something along the lines of Dombrowski having something very specific in mind as a return, and that the Jays didn't have those players he wanted. The point is, it seems that Fister WAS shopped at least to some degree and Dombrowski had clearly talked to a lot of GMs about it, so I don't buy that this had anything to do with AA. He simply had a specific return in mind and wasn't going to take superior packages over what his mind was stuck on wanting imo.

Haha I was watching Moneyball last night. The most ironic part about that whole scene was that the A's were supposed to be about finding wins using advanced stats, meanwhile advanced stats would tell you that adding a reliever at the deadline should be at the bottom on his list of priories, not calling 20 different GM's for one.

It was also a very subtle jab at Ed Wade and im not even sure if it was intended that way, but Beane asking a prospect in exchange for someone on his team and Wade basically admitting that he had no idea who the prospect actually was made me laugh.

I might add that Bowden really slammed Griffin about the article and the executive who leaked it to him . Said he talked with 3 GM,s about the article and all of them said it wasn't true . Said AA is well respected in the game and gets along with MOST GM,s . NOT all but most of them .
