I would think they'd need at minimum two days for the physical, travel time, and final contract language details, and I think the signing period ends sometime on Friday. It would make sense that he'd have to sign tomorrow at the latest. I'm assuming Wilner is just using common sense (for once).

FWIW some ass hat on Twitter is saying Tanaka will sign some time in the next 24hrs. I don't believe a word of it and it is not a credible source but, I thought you guys would like to know the rumour du jour.

The announcement probably will come in the next 24 hours, the team will need time to cross all the t's and dot the lower case j's. PLus, he'll have to finalize a physical (unless the team is prepared to take the results of the physical he took on January 9th, without their own doctor's having any access to him) before anything is official. They can't write anything in their about what would happen to the contract after the Friday deadline if he failed a physical or something on Saturday.

 

It's either 100% final by Friday's deadline, or he's back in Japan.
