Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Watch him get traded along with other prospects for an ace or expensive pitcher at the deadline, especially when/if Farrell and Cherington are fired at mid-season if the team struggles, and ownership orders big moves to get the team back to the playoffs.. they won't be patient again if the team struggles, especially with $190M+ being spent.. Look, if these big moves fail to get the team back to contention, Farrell and Cherington will not last the season. Two 90 loss seasons (with a fluky World Series win in between) are not good for ticket sales on a big market team like Boston. Are you trolling?

I'd be stunned if either one were fired less than 2 years after a World Series title.

I was surprised he didn't take the fall for the 91 losses last year. And Cherington deserves blame too for not having decent backup plans in case JBJ, Middlebrooks and Bogaerts disappointed.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 New, and potentially better than WOWY, catcher framing measure released on BP. It uses mixed effects models to dampen the noise between different pitchers and umpires, which results in less extreme values like what were seen with WOWY. Edit: Guess who comes in at 3rd best since 1988? Where on earth do these guys get their data?

z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Wow, was just looked at the BP org top-10's and the A's have Nolin (3) and Graveman (5) on their top 10... that's gotta hurt. Barreto #1 as well. That must be a bad farm.
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Someone said they are bottom 5.
Frag Verified Member Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 KATOH for pitchers released. You guys know #2 on this list.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Explains why nobody picked him up as a backup yet. Would suck if this lead to his retirement.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Explains why nobody picked him up as a backup yet. Would suck if this lead to his retirement. Well, he IS 39 (almost 40), doesn't move well to block balls in the dirt anymore, can't run, and can't hit. The only thing he really brings is experience and framing, and I'm not sure either make up for the rest anymore (it did at one time).

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 For only a 2.5 million guarentee can't see why we didn't sign Burke. Not like GAB is an easier ballpark to pitch in than RC either.

Not like GAB is an easier ballpark to pitch in than RC either. Most likely he wasn't comfortable pitching in the AL East, and some of his peripherals are showing some signs of decline. That, and Boston seemed uninterested in bringing him back.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 From a Facebook group I'm part of...it's a lot of basketball guys in the group I find. James Shields is expected to make his final decision today or tomorrow. It's looking like the Padres are the front runners. If he does become a Padre, who had the better offseason 2015 Padres Or 2013 Blue Jays (I'm talking about the haul not the on field product because obvs the Padres haven't played a game yet?) Some of the follow up comments The scary thing about the Padres. they have 3 decent outfielders still on their roster from last year they can move for other pieces. I love the Padres moves. Think SF and Dodgers got weaker. Just wanted to say...this is why I stay here despite giving up on cheering for the Jays. I can't risk moving on and dealing with these people.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 What a great deal for the Padres. I would almost pick Shields over Scherzer. In my opinion deal of the off season. Likely bought 15 WAR over for years at less than $5M a WAR
