burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Zobrist leaves the A's at the deadline for a massive haul from a desperate contender. With the loss of the draft pick I don't see his value being higher than now. Especially since he is a position player as pitchers are the ones who have more value at the deadline. Also don't think the As will be out of it.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Good point. f***in' A's.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 This doesn't seem to make much sense for TB: - Cabrera is a better 2B than SS - Relying on Nick Franklin is probably a bad idea - Jaso is not a catcher anymore, and he's not taking 1B reps away from Loney, so he's a DH platoon bat for TB - Kiemaier, Jennings, and Souza have the OF locked down, so DeJesus and Guyer is a fine platoon at DH - I don't see the need for Jaso
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 I guess we need to remember that Friedman is no longer running the show

Its weird because Friedman left and everything has gone downhill. You would think management would have the same philosophy he did but they really haven't.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 They're pretty confident Franklin is a 2 WAR guy. I still think it would have been smart to keep Escobar around just in case.
King Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 What are the Rays looking like after trading Zobrist and Escobar
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Zobrist a good match for Coliseum Light haul by Rays.....
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Rivera/Jaso Loney Franklin Cabrera Longo Jennings Kiermaier Souza DeJesus/Guyer/Jaso Longo not gonna get anything to hit
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 What are the Rays looking like after trading Zobrist and Escobar C - Rivera 1B - Loney 2B - Franklin 3B - Longoria SS - Cabrera CF - Kiermaier LF - Souza RF - Jennings BN - DeJesus (OF) BN - Jaso BN - Guyer (OF) BN - Forsythe Unless other moves are made, it seems as though they might think Jaso can catch twice a week.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 In recent years, teams have rarely received massive prospect hauls for their studs with one year of control. The Mark Teixeira trade isn't happening again. Robertson and Powell is what the market beared in this case. Makes sense, with skyrocketing FA contracts.... the cost controlled years of prospects that pan out that much more valuable. Drafting and player development is by far the key to a successful team.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 I feel like the A's might try to keep Zobrist around.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Great haul by the A's It must suck to be a Rays fan right now. Your GM leaves, then your manager leaves and all of a sudden core players start to get shipped out and the dream of a new stadium is possibly floating away
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Do you guys think Everth Cabrera would make a good 2B? He's played SS in the past, though considering whats left on the market. He was worth 3.1 WAR in 2013 and projects for 1.2 WAR in 2015. Plus if Reyes ever goes down, then you could call up Travis and move Cabrera back to SS.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 I love this deal for the A's. Don't count them out again in 2015. Adding Zobrist kind of mitigates the loss of Donaldson for next season. Lawrie can be very good if healthy and is under club control/inexpensive. Escobar will be a good stopgap at SS. They still have a solid pitching staff after losing Lester and Shark this offseason. They could use a catcher though.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Wow, that is a really s***** return for TB. What a shame. I mean Robertson's a good prospect but he's not the type you build a deal around.

fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 lol Well it's true, there's probably like a handful of them only
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 The A's don't look bad at all. If their SP stays healthy, they have a shot. At least it makes an AL East team a lot worse.

He also has been a mess off the field with arrests. Not exactly a player I want to have.
flafson Verified Member Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 I guess Zobrist isn't so elite after all... And you guys were saying Sanchez++ just to get him without Escobar.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 I guess Zobrist isn't so elite after all... And you guys were saying Sanchez++ just to get him without Escobar. You realize that Robertson is a better prospect than Sanchez, yes?
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 All 15 of them must be pretty sad. I'm having the Rays fanbase over tonight so we can get drunk and re-watch games from 2008.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 How are the Rays going to score runs
King Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 You realize that Robertson is a better prospect than Sanchez, yes? Fair to assume this is the first time he's heard the name Daniel Robertson.
