Don't fight the small stuff - it will be a waste of energy. There are some who will keep hounding you down till you quit in despair.

You will be judged by the quality of your post. If you do not know your stuff don't try to come across as all knowing cuz you will be mercilessly roasted. If you are truly interested in expanding your knowledge on baseball, or even sharing insights, just post intelligent comments then you will find this site to be a great one. Also, people will have different opinions based on stats, the good "eye standard", or the good "gut feeling". Those who use stats have a leg up but stats is not the be all and end all of discussions.

Belated welcome. Have fun.

Pretty good post, but a bit preachy for my tastes.

So Bonifacio signs with the White Sox... 1yr $4 mil...

What do people make of this? I may be bias but I wouldn't want him for any price, if he's used as a pinch-runner only he's a waste of a roster spot, can't be used as a defensive replacement... he's a liability at any position

I'd say you are biased by a short sample size of a misused Bonifacio. He was an above average defensive OF last year and still provides value with his legs as well. I remember when JFaS said that Bonifacio would be the Jays best option at 2B last year. I'm not sure he would have had the same season in Toronto (and his season was pretty lucky as it was) but he would have been better than Goins.

Not sure Boni is an above average outfielder (did not see enough in Toronto). Boni is blazing fast but he's also really stupid baserunner and doesn't have much baseball sense. He didn't actually have a lucky last season (it only seems like that because he started off with a crazy high BA/BABIP), actually his BABIP last season ended-up being below his career avg. His performance on a year-to-year basis is anywhere between scrub to replacement value. Would not touch with a 10-foot pole.

Woah...Big Game James to get 20 million AAV, per Rosenthal...yeah, he can GTFO!

Apparently has a 5/110 on the table by an unknown club???

Scary thing being is that you could likely give him a lower AAV if you went 6 years. Sounds like someone who did not want to go over 5 years on a contract....... I am probably wrong but i am just saying lol

Looks like Dan Haren is available for cheap.

Only thing is Dan Haren wants to play where he wants to or he is going to retire. And correct me if i am wrong he wanted to stay out west when he was originally traded from LAD.

MLBTR says he will decide case by case. Which means he's not closed to being in the West.

He likely would play in Arizona, Houston, Texas or San Francisco.

I would be very hesitant to give a 33 year old pitcher a 5 year deal. He's pitched 200+ innings a lot of seasons already. I could see his numbers falling off big time in his last 2 years when he's 36/37, just like it happens to most pitchers at that age.

Royals To Sign Ryan Madson

By Zach Links [January 5, 2015 at 12:08pm CST]

JAN. 5: Madson will earn $850K if he makes the big league club and has the opportunity to earn up to $150K via incentives, tweets Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

This could be a high reward sign for the Royals, well that's if Madson comes up Milhouse, his arm assploded back in 11' wish the Jays were in on this,(could've been) NRI's could payoff nicely, with nothing to lose.

Agree, it's a foolish gamble to take IMO... most long-term contracts never pan out.

Yeah, I love that deal for the Royals.

If he won't play in Miami, he sure as s*** won't come to Toronto.

He might want to go to a competing team, you can say many things about the Blue Jays but they are trying to compete.

Marlins appear to be as well, no?
