GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Strongly doubt Hedges is in the deal
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 I have these theories about highly educated front offices, deep down one of their weaknesses is that when they do meet players they are really stupid and from everything I hear Wil Myers is the stupidest one in all of baseball (and I've met many really stupid ball players). So while the numbers don't come with bias, there might be some bias when the projections are down and you just can't bring yourself to like that player. And this is the Rays...you just know Hedges is in this deal somewhere. Best defensive catcher in the minors. I can't wait to hear how you'll justify them trading Evan Longoria
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 JP Riccardi deserves a lot of that blame. Especially the Romero drafting over Tulo. AA's drafting record is still up in the air.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Yeah I think part of this is just really bad luck. Guys like Snider, Arencibia, Romero, etc. just ended up flopping. They were all projected to be above-average all the way through AAA, but they all ended up sucking.

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 AA on Fan 590 now recap?
JaysRap Verified Member Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 recap? Nothing of high interest than normal AA banter: * Didn't want to get into specifics about Melky but sounds like they were never close * Wouldn't commit to say Sanchez would be the closer in 2015. Still seems him as a rotation guy. Will compete with Norris and Estrada for that 5th spot * Did want to acknowledge they've had interest in Toritani but wouldn't go into specifics. * Morrow was offered bullpen role, happy he got a starters deal in San Diego. I had to step away from desk but that's what I got
GreekFatAss Verified Member Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 The Nats are apparently the 3rd team in the Myers deal. They wouldn't possibly be on the verge of dealing away Harper would they...?

King Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Joel Sherman says if Padres/Rays deal goes through, Rays will trade acquisitions from Padres to Nats for Souza
TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Joel Sherman says if Padres/Rays deal goes through, Rays will trade acquisitions from Padres to Nats for Souza Doesn't make sense from the Rays' standpoint, unless theyve given up on Myers. Theyre trading for a less established, yet older player in Souza? Both are pre-arb, so money shouldnt be an issue at this point for Myers.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 What happened to "Meyers, the golden boy" Can't believe that Tampa wants to trade him. Their offense is pretty bad already, especially after trading away Joyce.

My guess is that they are getting multiple pieces that will contribute right away.

Souza projected at 2 wins over 500 PA's (with negative defensive value, which is still a complete unknown). And Souza plays 6 positions. Rays love flexibility.

If its a package, then it would make more sense, obviously depending on who the other pieces are. If its straight up Myers out Souza in, makes no sense.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Romo back to the Giants for 2/15 (lol). Rays/Padres discussing Rene Rivera for Ryan Hanigan swap as extended part of the Myers trade talks.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 That's to much for Romo, why not just go the extra bit and get a guy like Miller...
JaysRap Verified Member Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 That's to much for Romo, why not just go the extra bit and get a guy like Miller... I believe Miller turned down less to go to the Yankees. Granted it was the Astros, but it's not just as easy as having the money - the player has to want to go as well.

Westfan Verified Member Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 That's to much for Romo, why not just go the extra bit and get a guy like Miller... Every reliever seems to be getting overpaid right now. Seems the new norm. Teams watched KC ride those 3 arms in the BP to a World Series appearance and said I got to get me some of that. As one poster said patience is on our side. There will be some value signing later in the year.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Deal's done according to Jim Bowden: TO PADRES: Myers, Hanigan, Jose Castillo TO RAYS: Souza, Travis Ott, Rene Rivera, Burch Smith, Jake Bauers TO NATS: Trea Turner(PTBNL), Joe Ross
