Royals To Re-Sign Luke Hochevar

Jon Heyman @JonHeymanCBS · 3h 3 hours ago

luke hochevar signs FA deal back with royals: $10M, 2 years. kc enhances baseball's best pen. http://cbsprt.co/1AfhzNl

Why would he go there where he will have a limited role and why would a team on a budget continue to load up on relievers?

They are literally the one team who would have benefited the least from signing Hochevar. Of course they don't understand that.

I think they're trading Holland or Davis. Probably Holland.

I feel like trading Davis would be better.

Either Davis or Holland could probably fetch them a nice return.

Don't you think Holland has more perceived value since he's a "closer"?

2014 Teflon Glove Awards (by CBSSports.com) are out, and former Jay Travis D'Arnaud ranked as worst defensive catcher.. good thing we have Russell Martin here in Toronto now! HanRam ranked as worst SS.. which explains why Boston is putting him in LF, which he will likely be as bad.. look at his awful D at SS and 3B in the past! Sadly, Drew Hutchison made the list..

d'Arnaud is a great framer though so it evens out the bad parts of his defensive game.

True, but his defense is going to have to improve. Kevin Plawecki is expected to be in AAA next year, and is going to push D'Arnaud for the starting job, and projects to hit better than Travis d'Arnaud. Either d'Arnaud needs to improve his throwing and defense, or he will be moved from C.

Torii Hunter just had a pretty interesting first press conference with the Twins......

Aaron Gleeman ‏@AaronGleeman 13m13 minutes ago

Torii Hunter just called Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press a "prick" when he asked about Hunter's past quotes on gay marriage.

Anyone know where to find how to calculate WAR incorporating to include pitch framing? Or at least what amount of runs saved equals "x" amount of WAR?

Yup! It's under Fangraphs' Guts! section.

http://www.fangraphs.com/guts.aspx?type=cn

The quick calculation is just take Framing Runs Added, divide it by R/W (runs per win), and add it to the existing WAR.

I'm new to all of the catcher stuff, but was Martin worth ~1.3 "extra" WAR last year?

Sounds about right. Plus game calling, maybe.

LOL at all of this. Is this the kid who is 14??

Talks about Matt Kemp being traded and that it was "close". Cole Hamels was "close". Then goes on to say it involved prospects, and the only name he says is Pederson. Well no s*** Sherlock.

Last night, that Rodriguez guy tweeted saying "Hamels + Bastardo have been traded to the Dodgers for Pederson and Zach Lee", thats what he was referring to.

Ya, but he's acting like he actually had some inside source that still allows him to verifty that it was, indeed close.

Same kid who said the Jays overpaid for Donaldson IIRC

It's actually closer to ~1.8 extra WAR

This may be extremely simple, but I'm not ashamed to ask because I want to know how to do this. Learn it the correct way the first time, and I'll never have to ask again. How did you calculate that?

Well according to BP he added (saved) '19.3' runs via pitch framing in 2014, so 19.3 / 9.117 = 2.1 WAR.

But I was actually looking at his total receiving runs (not just pitch framing) according to his BP page which is 17.2... which works out to be 1.88 WAR
