Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 It makes me sad that maybe, just maybe Doc was thinking of coming back but couldn't. He came back for one day so he could retire as a Jay...

BTS Community Moderator Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Brian Wilson is exercising his $9.5 M player option! Christ Ned Colletti is an idiot.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Ryan Dempster is also retiring. At least he has a World Series ring to go out with from 2013 with the Red Sox.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Brian Wilson is exercising his $9.5 M player option! Christ Ned Colletti is an idiot. When did closers start commanding 10M a season. Like seriously how did it get like that?

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 When did closers start commanding 10M a season. Like seriously how did it get like that? No idea.. and the Jays were stupid enough at one time to give that kind of money to BJ Ryan, who didn't even finish out his contract due to declining velocity and TJS.

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 I would be fine with taking a flier on Rios if he was willing to come here on a one year very reasonable contract. ( Which won't happen) He's been a replacement level scrub before (2009 and 2011) and followed those seasons up with 3+ fWAR seasons. So it would be worth it on a one year deal. He didn't exactly seem to enjoy it here so i doubt he's signing a pillow contract to come back to Canada so it's a moot point.

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 I dunno, guy is 34 in February. Might just be done. Maybe. But on a one year...let's say 6.5 million deal. Why not? But yeah...it's a moot point. He's not coming here on those terms.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 The Dodgers can't be crazy enough to trade Puig, can they? If they are, then Bautista (as much as I want to win with him) for Puig, followed by Lawrie/Norris/Sanchez for Donaldson and watch the money roll in.

Really depends how negative internal assesments on him are and how desperate they are for a shakeup. They really shouldn't go into full panic mode but it's sports so they just might.

Also, no thanks.

Puig is a 5 win player with five years of control left at age 23, and Donaldson is a 6-7 win player with four years of control at age 28. If they use whatever money they save on those deals on getting a starter, that team is in a good spot short and long term.

They would be foolish to trade. And yet I know what you mean - I could almost see them doing it somehow. #ProblemChild Edited October 9, 2014 by G-Snarls
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Puig's contract is such a steal it's insane. Maybe if they actually played him it would be? Since he's being benched half the time... not so sure... Puig wRC+ 147, arguably the best hitter on the team.... BENCHED FOR MOST IMPORTANT GAME DODGERS HAD IN A MILLENNIUM http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=50&type=8&season=2014&month=0&season1=2014&ind=0&team=22&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=16,d Also don't understand why Van Slyke didn't get any ABs in the postseason... don't think he was injured... These things disturb me deeply, right down to the bone.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 These Cuban guys (Puig, Cespedes, Abreu) have been such a steal. Getting signed in their early 20's to (fairly) team friendly multi year deals. Sure there was some "risk" that they wouldn't pan out. However, I no longer think there's likely any more risk in the international FA market than there is in signing 30 year old veterans like Ellsbury and Choo. And these Cuban guys are making half as much! f*** I wanted AA in on Abreu...

It's not Alex's fault that Abreu wouldn't take the one year deal with four team options that was offered to him by the Jays. It was very reasonable.

LongTimeReader Verified Member Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Juan Uribe, wtf? He's actually kinda figured out how to hit last couple seasons...

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 No thanks on what part? Adding an underpaid 4-5 WAR outfielder I guess
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Maybe if they actually played him it would be? Since he's being benched half the time... not so sure... 640 PA this year suggests otherwise.
