He will be platooning at 3B with Valencia, Lawrie to 2B and Lind/EE to 1B/DH. Francisco will get plenty of playing time.

He definitely will, but if Goins stays red hot and Fransico goes ice cold again I see Goins at 2b and Lawrie at 3b against righties, especially if its a breaking ball pitcher. Lots of options to play with...could be who is the hottest at times.

Carlos Gonzalez left game after he re-aggrevated his sprained ankle sliding into the wall

Injury prone. Himself and Tulo

It really is frustrating to see Valencia who can't hit a breaking ball thrown by a RHP in the lineup when they are better options. Does anyone find it weird that Lawrie struggles vs LHP? His splits in his entire career MILB and MLB suggests he hits RHP better by a significant margin.

Just saw a tweet that the A's have the best record in baseball and the smallest division lead. Adding that second wildcard format is stoopit this year. Potentially the second best team in MLB may have to play a one-and-done play-in game to make a divisional series.

The MLB doesn't care because it increases revenue a ton. More teams in it=more $. IF they have a one team wildcard, KC, Cle and Sea all would be pretty much completely out of it.

Pitches from umpires view

87-97 mph

So, it is pretty ridiculous that they stand off to the side, just like I thought.

Most teams would think having no chance at the playoffs despite finishing with 90+ wins would be stupid as well though. So every year you could have one problem or the other. And it'll always be that way unless they get rid of divisions and balance the schedule.

Cervali just stole two walks away from the Red sox in the first inning for those that don't think pitch framing is a thing.

It's a thing, but it shouldn't be a thing because umpires should be perfect, or they should be replaced with something that IS perfect.

apparently the Astros are opening the roof in August for the first time in 10 years. Clearly because of Dickey. I wonder if our stadium control people will do the same for when Dickey pitches at home now that the games mattter so much.

And Napoli walked in the 3rd on at least 2 balls that could've been called strikes...wonder why the ump wasn't fooled on those...

Perhaps he reconsidered his kzone when Ortiz told the ump that the catcher is lifting the balls back into the zone.

So are you saying it's the ump and not Cervelli?

I believe umpires need to be aware of it and most probably are to some degree. Iv seen some really good umpires who do a good job of calling a strike no matter how its caught and calling a ball no matter how its caught. There are also some umpires who don't call a strike if the catcher is set up down and away and the ball goes down the inner half.

Yes I think umpires need to do a better job. I also think they need to position themselves better as the video posted earlier makes the down and away strike difficult to judge.

"In New York he wore those bright shoes and (we told him) 'Hey, make sure you're not focusing on those shoes, make sure you're focusing on pitching.'"

Oh shut the f*** up Buehrle. Now you're nitpicking. Just cause you say something or wear something doesn't mean you're 100% focused on that.

This is where Andrew McCutchen grew up, by the way.
