jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Regarding Tampa, I don't see the team rebounding. The Rays have a lot of problems, not just injuries. Longoria is slumping this year, hitting for much less power than previous years. Desmond Jennings isn't hitting for average, Myers is having a sophomore slump, the Forsythe trade was a bust, and not trading David Price is going to cripple the franchise. However, some of his peripherals have improved.. unfortuantely, he doesn't have the talent around him to help.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Rays are definitely not weak. They put out above average guys at CF, RF, 3B, SS, 2B, 1B, and C. Yunel is on the wrong side of 30 turning 32 before calendar year end...he's in decline..his range is getting worse not better as time goes on....his offense is in decline..he's never been able to run...he's a negative war player this year. Tampa has scored 28 less runs than they have given up......that's not very good.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 When Longoria is hitting for limited power and the team needs several players to compared to Bautista and EE in the amount of HRs hit, you can tell the team is in trouble. And Ben Zobrist is on the DL, exposing Forsythe and S-Rod to extra playing time. And even when they get Cobb back, it likely will not help.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 And Zobrist is hurt, neither Hanigan or Molina are really hitting, Loney's gone at the deadline when the Rays start a fire sale (his contract is backloaded). Neither Jennings or Myers are hitting for average.
BluejayEd Verified Member Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 f*** the Rays. WE actually win a few games against our other rivals so f*** em.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Umm... so are Edwin, Bautista, Reyes, Buehrle, and Dickey. Um this nothing to do with the skillset of the rays and more to do with the fact that we all wanna see the devil rays again. Even if its for one year
BluejayEd Verified Member Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Giving up 28 runs more than runs scored doesn't bode well for a team whose whole bread and butter is preventing them. They are a brilliantly run organization no doubt but they also have been stupid lucky in regards to injuries for years
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Longoria's been far from a Gold Glover this year, as his dWAR is at 0.0, and seems to be losing steps at 3B. Escobar's got a -0.7 dWAR BTW. And the Rays won't make it through the summer.. their bullpen is already heavily taxed, throwing the most innings in baseball per game, allowing the 4th most runs (Jays are worst, but that may change with McGowan and Janssen back)
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 It's cute when people say Escobar's range keeps declining, just wait 'till his defensive metrics stabilize and he'll be back to being worth 3+ WAR.

AngryBird Verified Member Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Umm... so are Edwin, Bautista, Reyes, Buehrle, and Dickey. What? Pitchers, especially guys like Buehrle and Dickey who don't rely on velocity at all can pitch into their early 40s. Tim Wakefield retired at 44 I believe, guys a knuckle baller like Dickey and had a lot more miles than he does.
Cooler Heads Prevail Verified Member Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Rays are definitely not weak. They put out above average guys at CF, RF, 3B, SS, 2B, 1B, and C. Given your track record predicting outcomes this year, this just about makes a last place Rays finish a lock.

z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Just listened to Jeff Blair brag about how high Melky's BABIP was... like it was some sort of badge of honor. ITS EVEN HIGHER THAN MIKE TROUTS!!! I'm pleasantly surprised Melky's BABIP is as low as it is.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 It's crazy how this guy has been better than expected, even after his 1st MLB hitter faced hitting a HR.

AngryBird Verified Member Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Scherzer getting rocked Imagine they get swept by the Indians? That would be unbelievable.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Imagine they get swept by the Indians? That would be unbelievable. Indians are the most disappointing team to me. This is the start of their run to the AL Central title. Bauer up, Salazar will find himself in the minors and contribute. I can't believe that Santana will be bad much longer. Masterson has pitched much better than the numbers, Kluber is star in the making. Kipnis back this week...Indians at 77-1 is a great World Series bet right now.

Defiantly happy that we are done with the Indians because they are a team that can put together a big run. I have them as one of my Wild Card teams at the absolute worst.

I might add that the game is tied now and Scherzer fought through it.

The offense is top notch and Santana has not been able to get it going yet. They will be in it come September

The offense is top notch and Santana has not been able to get it going yet. They will be in it come September I've remained a pretty big believer in Bauer to be a big inning, workhorse type. Masterson will level out, Kluber probably isn't this for real...but he's for real. McAlister and Tomlin aren't good enough. I'm looking at them to be buyers...and then Salazar to contribute.
AngryBird Verified Member Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 The big shocker with Cleveland is their attendance this year. It is abysmal. 14,000 people is just....I don't have words for a number that low.
Spoonovic Verified Member Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 When is that stud SS prospect the Indians have going to be called up?
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 When is that stud SS prospect the Indians have going to be called up? Hard to say. Lindor is doing very well again this year. Only thing is that Ass Drible has been pretty solid so far this season for the Indians. Nice problem for them to have. Asdrubal likely trade bait for pitching and throw Lindor into the fire.
Spoonovic Verified Member Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 I have three futures in play. Jays 40 to 1 (from Pinnacle at the end of spring training) Rockies 37 to 1 (SIA from last week) Indians 76 to 1 (SIA today)
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 I wanna see the Cubs get another first today. Sharks first win lol.
