G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Brett Cecil is so f***ing good as a reliever. He's a lethal weapon
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Brett Cecil is so f***ing good as a reliever. That curveball is just nasty. What he did to Jones was f***ing hilarious. Not to mentioned he had Davis all f***ed up, just a **** hair outside.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Small sample, but Santos needs to throw his slider even more. His FB has a 5.6% O-Swing and 1.4% SwStr. (God awful, terrible) His SL has a 46.2% O-Swing and 36.5% SwStr. (Godly) Intuition tells me that the slider is more effective when he has command of his fastball and is ahead in the count. Guys have been laying off the slider sometimes when he's all over the place. when the fastball is in or at least near the zone it seems like they can't lay off the slider. If, for the sake of discussion, he started throwing twice as many sliders, would he get as many swing and misses from it?

Yep, the slider needs to be set up. He wouldn't get nearly the 46.2% chase rate if he threw it it hitters' counts.
Candy Maldonado Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Nava demoted, Goins next?
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Nava has been hitting like Goins this year. (.149/.240/.269). And with Victorino returning and Jackie Bradley Jr. establishing himself in CF, Boston could no longer afford to carry Nava on the roster, especially with the team 9-12, with several regulars regressing significantly. And trading Mike Carp is a non-starter. Nava is actually hurting the Red Sox, with a -0.4 WAR this year. Of course, outside of the bullpen and Mike Napoli, the team is struggling as a whole. Defensively, they're below replacement level (-0.3 dWAR), with their entire starting outfield not named Jackie Bradley Jr. being below average defensively.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 (edited) Martin Perez trying to finish off another gem. Shutout in the 8th but A's threatening for the first time all game. Edited April 23, 2014 by G-Snarls
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Quirky SSS stat - Perez has induced 11 double plays in 4 starts. On pace for an insane record number of them. Obv probably can't carry on at this pace but don't tell the Rangers broadcast team - they seem obsessed with it.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 If Perez comes out for the 9th, he has a chance to pitch 2 consecutive complete game shutouts. Now has a streak of 25 consecutive scoreless innings. Nice
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Mark Trumbo has a stress fracture in his foot. He'll be out a while. How long until Gibson or Towers gets fired in Arizona? What a gong show of a franchise.. almost as bad as Seattle.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Done deal. There have been 4 complete games pitched in the AL so far this season. 2 of those are by Perez, both shutouts, in consecutive starts. Impressive. All Star??

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Cubs blew a lead in the 9th on the Wrigley 100th anniversary day. Gave up 5 runs in the 9th. Cubs will be Cubs.

If it was the Jays, they would have demoted Bradley Jr. You can't have a hitter steal a job from another hitter. That's just not fair.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 These old ballparks - you almost have to demolish them before they get TOO old and people get too sentimental to ever tear them down.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Pineda getting lit up by the Sox right now.. could this be the overdue regression expected for him?
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Why? How was he ejected? Balls/strikes? Foreign substance (which would result in a lengthy suspension.. ask Sammy Sosa with his corked bat.)
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Pine tar on his neck? He's gonna be gone a while for this.. expect a lengthy suspension, possibly 25-50 games for this.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 beautiful Pineda. Loving the announcers talk like it's stupid to "cheat".
