Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Seattle is amazing. TB, Boston, and SD are also top-notch IMO. SF still has Jon Miller, right? Don't watch many Giants games due to the fact that the team is boring and mediocre. That guy has a great voice. Most overrated, by far, IMO is Vin Scully. I get that he's old as f*** and he's been the broadcaster forever, but I'm not really thinking about that when he's slowly telling stories about Matt Kemp eating a taco in between pitches. His voice gets on my nerves, too. I know I'm in the minority but I'd throw that out there.
Eragon Verified Member Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 I really enjoy Ashby and Howarth. That's cool, I like them. Ashby was great because he was so honest but sometimes it seemed a bit negative. I like Joe a lot, very common sense type.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 You guys are all forgetting Vin Scully. Shame on every single one of you
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Off the top of my head, announcing teams worse than Buck and Pat: Royals (Rex Hudler in particular, unbearable) Angels Phillies No one else comes to mind. Best 3: Red Sox, by far Yankees Rays or Astros. Probably lean Astros. I like the Orioles, too I haven't listened to most of these, but I don't like the Orioles guys because they're very homerish. I really hate when broadcasters are obviously biased, ala White Sox. It's fine to be excited when your team does something good, but some just simply won't accept a play that goes against their team even when it's right in front of them.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 (edited) I really enjoy Ashby and Howarth. Ashby is long gone and that's a shame. Edited April 22, 2014 by G-Snarls
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 You're missing one.... STRETCH, STRETCH, YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOARD YES!! Alan Ashbey is awesome and they're showing WAR in Houston so they're doing something right I could listen to Hawk's home run calls for hours. He's a massive homer and I don't like Stone at all but he definitely makes the game more entertaining. I always pick his feed if I'm watching a Sox game. Edit: Unless they are playing Boston because Don Orsillo is the best play-by-play guy out there and Jerry Remy is incredible. The most genuinely funny announcing duo and Jenny Dell is the hottest woman in sports.

Personally I like his home run calls, because of how into it he gets. I just posted that because the consensus on this board is that Hawk is the worst
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 I think Scully is good, but overrated. This, he's very old school, which is fine, but this means that he goes for a lot of traditional stats and the monotone commentary can become a bit boring after a while.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Diamondbacks are good too! Steve Berthiaume and Bob Brenly. As I said earlier, all of the NL West crews are good; easily the best division.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 I think no matter who the announcers are people who listen to them for 162 games a year are going to find aspects they don't like, and they'll naturally key into those as time progresses and get more and more annoyed at it.

Scully is awesome, he's the last old school guy that's left, you can literally sleep to his voice. He doesn't need stats, his stories are good enough!

NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Don't forget the ESPN crew! They're really good. Even Kruk.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 I'm very, very sure I'm the only one who mildly enjoyed Jamie Campbell.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Is their any Blue Jays TV broadcaster that you liked including past and present? I found the CBC broadcasters pretty decent when that still existed.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Is their any Blue Jays TV broadcaster that you liked including past and present? Who remembers Jamie Campbell being a broadcaster? Who am I kidding, you all do! But he was the first Jays broadcaster I heard... "You can kiss that one goodbye!"
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 I'm very, very sure I'm the only one who mildly enjoyed Jamie Campbell. I didn't mind him, but he's very cheesy. I liked that he had an original homerun call, whereas Buck is just awful at that.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Even though he's a pretty terrible person, Matt Vasgersian.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 I found the CBC broadcasters pretty decent when that still existed. Wasn't Darren Fletcher on that? I know Jesse Barfield was on CBC
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Even though he's a pretty terrible person, Matt Vasgersian. Rod. Black. Ugh
GD Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Anyone old enough to remember Brian Williams on the CBC weekend broadcasts. That man's voice was made for baseball. I have no idea whether or not he knew what he was talking about. Can't remember but I LOVE Brian Williams' voice.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Wasn't Darren Fletcher on that? I know Jesse Barfield was on CBC I think both were, at least Barfield I know for sure.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 I'm very, very sure I'm the only one who mildly enjoyed Jamie Campbell. That's ******** because I liked the guy!

"You can kiss that one goodbye!" And apparently so I recently heard he took that line from some other Jays commentator from the 80's.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Rod. Black. Ugh EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW GROSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS Him and Rautins on the Raptors' broadcast. f***ing horrible. Matt Devlin was excellent on the Jays' broadcast last year. Was sad when he left. That call on the Muni double isn't something I'm going to forget.
