Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Except, in this case, they are right. Defensive WAR is a piece of crap stat. Ranking Lawrie #28 among 3B this season defensively is a joke. Look, I remember when I started reading some of the stuff people say on this site about past Jays like Alomar and their defence, posted by kids who never saw them play but they believe in defensive WAR. I looked at their numbers. They don't even correlate well between seasons and I know the numbers on Alomar are absurd. Let's face it, admitting that defensive WAR is a joke makes WAR somewhat of a joke. And that upsets people. What is your stance on Corsi?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Lol @ legend in the making, umm, ya think? Yeah, even without the comp. Pujols and Cabrera will go down as best hitters of the post-Bonds era. And Cabrera is looking more durable.

Another partially torn UCL? Dr. Andrews is going to be busy this year.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 So Nova done for the year presumably. Does NY buy someone off the almost-retired list or call someone up? They don't have much minor league pitching depth do they??
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Here's their short term plan:
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Holy s***. Another partially torn UCL? Dr. Andrews is going to be busy this year. I'm surprised Dr. Andrews isn't taking the rest of the year off, he's performed a year's worth of TJS in the first 4 months of this year. It's crazy really.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Looks like Mitchell to the rotation for now? His stats in AA suggest he's pretty hittable.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Yeah, even without the comp. Pujols and Cabrera will go as best hitters of the post-bonds era. And Cabrera is looking more durable. Don't forget Votto! He's amazing too. wRAA post-Bonds (2008-): 1. Cabrera - 320.2 2. Votto - 278.2 3. Pujols - 262.4 4. Fielder - 234.0 5. Braun - 224.9 --------------- 9. Bautista - 169.5 45. Encarnacion - 103.4 68. Reyes - 70.2

They don't have much minor league pitching depth do they?? They just need a #5 (Happ?), which is what Nova was for them given how good their rotation has looked. I think they'll find someone.

I think they'll find someone. There were also a couple of veteran starters released by their team in ST who were never picked up. Can't remember who...
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Apparently, Nova felt discomfort earlier in the game, but didn't say anything 'cause he wanted to stay out there and be tough. Who knows, wish him a good recovery.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 So, should Stephen Drew just take up golf full time or what??? He and Boras must STILL be looking for an unreasonable contract or else the Tigers would have signed him by now. This is silly. Also Tigers, felt to be the best team in the AL, cycling through worse than replacement level players at a key position. Danny Worth is negative WAR in both offense and defense over his mostly minor league career. Career .622 OPS in the majors. I don't get it. Obviously they think they can get away with it??
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 More likely Nuno. They have basically nothing in the minors worth calling up. However, with Daley's DFA, they do have an open spot on the 40.

He and Boras must STILL be looking for an unreasonable contract or else the Tigers would have signed him by now. This is silly. I would fire Boras. Obviously there is a major disconnect. If I was him, I would take a one year deal worth 7-8 million with no qualifying offer attachment.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Agreed. Drew should sign with the Tigers NOW. It's unbelievable he's still unsigned well into late April.

I guess this time the owner in Detroit isn't stepping in to override the FO and sign Drew. The Tigers probably look at that division and think they can make do until a cheaper option becomes available. I think Drew will end up signing after the draft.

Obviously Dombrowski has talked to Boras. I would LOVE to know what he wants for Drew right now.

I think we all would as well. Who knows, at this point Boras may have decided to wait till after the draft 'cause if a team signed him right now, it would still have to give up a draft pick and would also not have the possibility of getting one back with a QO. Hit it on the dot. He can get Drew to sign a contract that's similar or higher than what their getting now on a 1 year deal before hitting the open market next year without running the risk of a QO. Who knows, he might even get a multi-year deal now that there's no picks involved. If AA signs him after the draft and we're still in it, he might be a genius in disguise.

I think you mean after the draft when there won't be a draft pick attached to him.
