I just have to say..

Billy Hamilton has crazy, retarded speed. I haven't seen s*** like that since the Ricky Henderson, Vince Coleman, Willie Wilson days.

Wow.

There are park and defense factors there too.

I think the more interesting question is how a pitcher arrives at his true-talent BABIP, whatever that may be. A 0.300 BABIP season obviously isn't composed of 30 0.300 BABIP games. There are games with a 0.100 BABIP and games over 0.400. We tend to chalk those discrepancies up to luck, and a good part of it is undoubtedly due to luck, but I'm not convinced that pitch quality is the same on high-BABIP and low-BABIP days.

Right. There is undoubtedly luck and non-pitcher factors at play. But I can't believe that that is all of it.

R. A. Dickey is a great example of that. Days where he has a crazy amount of action on his knuckeball , in addition to striking more out, many balls made contact with are weak dribblers and popups. When he has a bad day and they're not moving like he wants, he gets hit hard with line drives and long fly balls. No one can convince me that how he's throwing has a negligible impact on the result of that game, and that luck is the difference.

Here you go Moogy:

248 similar pitches in 2013, change up 85-86 mph, with similar break length and angle from RHP to LHB in around the same location. Pitch was an XBH 5.6% of the time. The pitch resulted in a strike in the count 62.4% of the time and was hit for an out 21.3% of the pitches.

The discussions, even if they are stupid (Moogy) bring great answers.

It might be best to scrap the prospect subforum. Barely anyone ever reads there aside from a few people and the threads would generate a lot more discussion in the main forum.

Its unfortunate because I liked the prospect subforum idea a lot but... It's just not working out.

NO for the love of god! We need to keep the prospect subforum. We need some place to keep all those King Kalfus f***s so that they don't bother other people. If we get rid of that sub forum they'll be bumping that stupid thread constantly.

The prospect forum is where threads go to die lol

Make Sanchez article thread in prospect subforum = A few responses (if Iucky)

Post article in main forum = 5+ pages, raging "Stroman vs Sanchez" discussion by post #10

Articles on top prospects that matter should be fine to be posted on the main forum.

I think this might be the best idea too.

I'm going to make a poll in a little bit

I must wonder why Stroman has a propensity to give up the longball then. His FB looked pretty straight in ST.

Perhaps his height really is a disadvantage since the point of release for shorties like Stroman is a lot lower than your average pitcher.

Why do you even bother with that guy? He's only here to make himself feel better by putting others down, can't admit to being wrong and is generally unpleasant to interact with.

Oh god, do we really want that king kalfus abomination on the main page?

It's so nice letting them have their own little sub-forum to smear s*** on the walls and thank each other for enabling their insanity.

EXACTLY. You may as well make that thread a sticky while you're at it.

There's my snipe-hunter! You're awesome!

No, but seriously, since you actually wasted time and embarrassed yourself ... I want the specific underlying data points (and all of the attributes used), not the summation. Each pitch utilized (as well as those which were closest to meeting the criteria, but weren't included in your breakdown), and its characteristics. And source it, of course.

You are honestly ruining others enjoyment on the board now. I've recommended full banning (I can't for some reason right now). You are just arguing to be a bitch now. JFAs data is obviously legit.

I need some help guys. Can anyone point me in the direction of the thread that had the study of umpires giving home teams the advantage with strike calls? I know someone posted it on this board and I found it interesting, and I'm wanting to use it for a Sports Psych paper.

Here: http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/1383-The-Great-Umpiring-Conspiracy

I found it by looking at JFaS' list of most recently-started threads. Good luck with the paper!

Good luck with your paper man!

Four dingers in two games for Jose Abreu. He looks legit.

Oh he is! I watched the guy foul off pitch after pitch in his 12 pitch at bat where he hit his first HR. Tons of power but also a smart hitter with decent contact ability.

So was J.P early on... Give it some time before the pitchers adjust to him.

What's his flaw? What are they going to exploit with his approach and/or swing?

I don't know, i didn't watch him. But there is always an adjustment period specially for power hitters.
