GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Agreed. We are losing control of this team -- 20 + years without playoffs. It's time to make it back to the playoffs and bring this team back to glory. It all starts with the development of our prospects and a combination of youth and experience. Reported.
mlbprospects Verified Member Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Go Blue Jays! go jays!
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 NorthOf49 thank you for sticking up for the jays and so many fans. and great avatar! go jays. I can only imagine how many eager new fans will be born if the new era of Blue Jays baseball begins as " King " alludes to. We have a full farm system; the Blue Jays brass needs to just be patient and, as you say, let our prospects adjust to the big leagues.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 go jays! Truth bomb! Here's to a great season for the Blue Jays and for the farm.

fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/02/rosenthal-on-compensation-free-agents.html Interesting article here about the possibility of players signing after opening day so that their teams can't give them a QO after the season. The compensation system has become a sideshow. MLB needs to scrap the idea altogether, or at the very least only add picks between rounds as compensation. What do you think the perfect system would be? I thought the best part about the system was scraping the Elias rankings (I still don't know how they calculated that) and going with the QO, making it more streamlined. When on the other hand, the Elias system was a great benefit for teams that are looking to rebuild (helped us a lot) and the fact that you can trade mid-season for players who you can still get compensation for.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 No Aledmys Diaz for Yankees, as they were unimpressed with him. http://nypost.com/2014/02/23/jeter-rounds-bases-good-shot-to-start-grapefruit-opener/
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 I think a perfect system would be no compensation at all. It almost never serves it's intended purpose. How often does a small-market team actually get compensated when a big-market signs a key player away from them? We're in year #2 of the current format, and the only signing that really meets thus criteria is Atlanta signing BJ Upton away from TB. They have made it really hard on small market teams. Under the old system, if a team was uncomfortable offering arbitration, they could flip the player at the deadline to a team that didn't have the same financial concerns. Now if they flip a player with less than a year remaining on his deal, the compensation goes away making it harder to move the player and increasing the chances that the team ends up not offering the q.o. or trading the player.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Is that Kalfus in your avatar??? Shhhh... you're not supposed to use the k-word. But yes, it is. I and the rest of us whoppers are very excited for the Blue Jays farm to start producing real world-class Major Leaguers.

fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Oh man. I'm watching Hot Stove on MLB Network and Jon Hayman was asking Bailey about his extension and his questions was basically, "What do you tell people about your extension when you only went 49-45?", *sigh*.

Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Offseason operation could delay Minor: LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Mike Minor believes he will be ready to be a part of the Braves' starting rotation when the regular season begins. But the left-handed pitcher will first have to make up for the time he lost while recovering from a surgical procedure that removed scar tissue from his urethra. http://i.imgur.com/VgwOvC5.gif http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20140224&content_id=68261870¬ebook_id=68270330&vkey=notebook_atl&c_id=atl Guess those girls down in Atlanta are pretty clean...

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Yep, which the Yankees proceeded to use on the McCann/Ellsbury/Beltran shopping spree, so the pick is non-existent now. Any signing will cost the Mets a third-rounder (their first round pick is protected).

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 It is remarkable how "decent" the team has been on average, yet without a sniff of the playoffs
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Report: Mets have interest in trading for Seattle's Nick Franklin f***KK
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Look at the lack of parity.. of course, 1998 and 2009 were big helps for the Yanks win/loss record, where they won 100+. And worse, the Jays have been a near .500 team since 1998... yet worse teams have seen playoffs since 1998. Most of the Yanks wins have been during the Core 5 era, especially with Jeter around. Atlanta's wins were mostly between 1998-2005, when their core of pitchers was there. Anaheim's success mostly came pre-2010, before the ownership, desperate to be better than the Dodgers, spent like drunken sailors. And poor KC.. 28 years and still no playoffs since the 1985 World Series win.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Blame the Core 5 of the Yankees, and when Boston started winning regularly again, and broke the "curse".
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Report: Mets have interest in trading for Seattle's Nick Franklin f***KK Don't worry Alex has it all under control. We're despairing the Mariners. Eventually they'll have to choice but to hand Franklin over to us!
havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Don't worry Alex has it all under control. We're despairing the Mariners. Eventually they'll have to choice but to hand Franklin over to us! They won't be able to refuse the offer of future inner circle HOFer Brenden Kalfus. It's only a matter of time before Franklin is handed over to the Blue Jays.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Mets would be better off signing Stephen Drew. Franklin is more a 2B, not a SS.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Yeah if Franklin or Ackley get traded to another team for a fair return, AA should just f***ing resign.
