To kick this off, there's reports (although I have my doubts) that the Yankees might also stand pat on the pitching front. So here's the question: Would you prefer the Yankees rotation (next year) of:

C.C., Kuroda, Nova, Pineda, Phelps with Banuelos, Warren, and Nuno in reserve

or our rotation of

Dickey, Buehrle, Morrow, Happ, Hutch with Drabek, Stroman, Redmond, Rogers, Romero, Nolin in reserve.

I would take the Yankees lineup as long as CC returns to normal

I'd take us. I like our depth far more, CC costs way too much, and I don't believe in Kuroda and Nova that much going forward. I mean Kuroda can still be ridiculously good as he's been lately, but at his age you'd expect that something's gotta give, right? Maybe not. Depth still makes me like the Jays more.

I don't even think you can debate it with straight face.

CC > RA

Kuroda> MB

Pineda > Morrow

Nova > JA

Phelps > Hutch (seeing that Hutch coming off injury)

Maybe only the last one is debatable

Here are the comments that abomination is referring to. Guess Cashman doesn't like the FA or trade prices for starters either. Most likely he and AA are just trying to influence the market and drive costs down with posturing because they're both desperate to add a starter.

The Yankees are likely to bid for Masahiro Tanaka, if he's made available to them. But GM Brian Cashman suggests that the Yankees could also simply go with what they have in the back of their rotation, Jorge Castillo of the Star-Ledger reports. "We’re focusing solely on what’s available in the marketplace," says Cashman. "And also recognizing and restating that we might not get everything answered with an exclamation point or the comfort level that we’d prefer."

After C.C. Sabathia, Hiroki Kuroda and Ivan Nova, the next group of names on the depth chart include Michael Pineda, David Phelps, Manny Banuelos, Adam Warren and Vidal Nuno. Given that Kuroda will be 39 in February and that Sabathia had a down season in 2013, it would be somewhat surprising if the Yankees headed into the season with their current collection of talent. Unlike much of the rest of the free-agent market, the starting pitching market remains relatively fertile ground, with Ervin Santana, Matt Garza, Ubaldo Jimenez and Bronson Arroyo still available.

Morrow >>>>> Pineda

Hutch =/> Phelps

You smoking that Dominican Ganga bro?..of just Blue Jay lemondade?

Morrow has been good for less than 90IP on average over the last two years..xFIP above 4. Pineda looked good in the minors last year. 10+ k/9 AAA.. Something like 2.5 BB/9..albeit handful of starts..

Maybe Morrow > Pineda but it's not >>>.. And contracts considered, I'd trade Morrow for him now without blinking pending a physical

Maybe you've seen Pineda pitch in DWL or something? I've seem conflicting reports on how hard he's throwing

Nice job with the arbitrary end points, he failed to reach 90 IP exactly once in the last four years and if you're going to play arbitrary endpoints with Morrow you should do the same with Pineda who averaged OIP over those same two years. Pineda had one good season in 2011, 171 IP with 3.53 xFIP. Morrow that same season, 179,1 IP with a 3.53 xFIP. The fact is if they are both healthly it's probably a wash and Morrow's health concerns do not trump Pineda's by any stretch of the imagination.

You a rookie? Don't you know making arbitrary end point to support your argument is the norm here??:)

That said. I can dig a wash for sure. It was Morrow >>>> that I took issue with.

I was expecting action to pick up before the holidays. I was thinking players would want to sign their contracts before Christmas.

I guess some big names will wait till 2014

AT least something to look forward to in January.

Carlos Beltran told reporters, including Newsday's David Lennon, he insisted on a third year to improve his chances of making the Hall of Fame. "I felt that having the third year, it allowed me to play longer, and it allowed me to put up better numbers. In my consideration, it would be more realistic."

If Beltran gets in Larry Walker should get in. And Barry Larkin. And Andruw Jones, Craig Biggio, Adrian Beltre , Paul Molitor etc... I don't think he's quite good enough.

Classic case of players sticking around just to add to their totals.
