jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2013 Author Posted December 17, 2013 They have Dean Anna in AAA as well from the trade they made with the Padres. He has a good shot of making the Yankees according to NY media, as Roberts is no guarantee to stay healthy, and Johnson may be needed at 3B if A-Rod is suspended. Brian Roberts has had the following injuries: Abdominal strain Two concussions Hip surgery Hamstring surgery

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 I like the deal. I would take him over Izzy even going into last season. He's ml depth at least and his pay is drop in bucket to Yanks.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 There goes our last viable option. The Mariners have to deal Ackley or Franklin....right?

Kelly Gruber Verified Member Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Phillips is an option as well, Beckham also interests me. Phillips is the obvious choice. 100 RBI = Good hitter Seriously though, if we are going to enter the season with Goins at second base (which I don't mind from a defensive standpoint) that puts a lot of pressure on replacing that offence with a breakout season from Lawrie. The lineup doesn't look that bad if both Lawrie and Cabrera has good seasons.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 It's not AA's fault. If nobody wants to sign here or lose a trade with him what is he supposed to do? I was thinking of going to Canada for my birthday in February but not, I'll go to New york again.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 I was being sarcastic. It's getting more and more difficult to see this offseason as anything but a spectacular failure. I'm sure AA still has balls in the air. And dialogue. What more can you ask?

Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 AA should just throw in the towel. At this point his only optin to fix 2B is via trade and it's more likely he just goes with the black hole we currently have. Barring a miracle, I can't see him fixing the holes on this team before the winter is over.

Barring a miracle, I can't see him fixing the holes on this team before the winter is over. Early in the off-season, he was talking about bringing in three pitchers but even then that should have been considered a longshot. It's even more of a longshot this late in the off-season without even one having been secured.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Improving by 5-7 wins at this point is going to be extremely difficult. The only 1+ win middle infielder left on the market is Drew, and there's nothing to indicate that AA will be in on Jimenez/Santana/Garza/Burnett/Tanaka. The best bet right now is that one of the players with type A compensation gets ignored (Drew/Jimenez/Santana) and AA swoops in. It would make some sense to take advantage of the protected first-rounder. GMs probably aren't lining up to give big money and 1st round pick for an inconsistent pitcher like Santana. He seems the likeliest candidate to be available the longest. Of course, once Santana brings down his price, teams may change their mind about him so the Jays won't get the sizable bargain that at more attractive franchise might so even that small ray of light is pretty dim. I think AA is too compartmentalized in his thinking to consider improving his defense by moving Reyes to 2B. I can't see Drew coming even at a discount.
LunchBox Verified Member Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 No one could possibly expect Roberts to play a full season; however, even if you think he's got a good shot at playing roughly 60 games, it's hard to argue with more or less paying two million for 1 win at a position of dire need. Some GMs obviously don't understand the concept of plugging holes in the roster, be it for a partial season, platoon situation or whatever.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Relax guys. AA is, I am sure, "having dialog" What more could we ask for, right? Right??
