Samardzija and Butler.

This team doesn't deserve to make the playoffs.

Whats your problem? Those are good players. If we add them without subtracting from our MLB roster, the playoffs are definitely a possibility.

What do you think are the odds Phillips waives his no trade clause to come to Toronto? I'd say it's roughly 0.0000000000001%.

My understanding is it's a limited no trade, and that he only listed big market teams so he could extort them for more money in the event of a trade. Theres a solid chance Toronto isnt on his blacklist.

Samar yes, Butler meh. If it's we get Ventura as well then yes.

Love Ventura... my DDL team doesn't want him in the RC, but I do!

Butler is a nice fit for us at DH assuming we trade Lind (which I fully endorse). Ventura has more value than Butler considering his years of control, hes no throw-in. We'd be lucky to get Almonte or a lottery ticket like Starling thrown-in. If we got Ventura and Butler, I'd be scared to hear the price.

Ventura is so underrated it's stupid. He's basically Stroman with a 102 MPH heater.

I think Butler's bat would play well at the RC. I think he would be upgrade defiantly on Lind.

That's just my opinion though.

He'll really feel like an idiot for trying to extort the Yankees if that happens. Everything about him spells trouble but at this point the Jays needs to put more wins on the field and worry about that other stuff later. As for the Reds, if the market is limited to teams not on his no trade that may force them to accept whatever they can from one of those teams. This could turn into an extreme buy low opportunity on a player that fits a need.

Exactly. That's my f***ing problem. After everything this team has invested over the past two years, after all the trades and the neglecting to sign free agents, and now when they completely empty the upper-levels of the farm system in these next few trades, the playoffs are still only going to be a possibility. That's complete ********. When you take on as much payroll and kill the farm system as much as the Jays have, you should have far more than a possibility. The playoffs should no longer be only a best case scenario, they should be likely.

So since things didn't workout as he thought, AA should sit on his hands and roll out another subpar team? Right.

VP of baseball ops and grand poobah etc etc

I suspect he vets all decisions

Yeah, that's what I would guess without knowing the situation. Theo prob leans on him to do all the tedious tasks that come with the GM job. But I would bet Theo's fingerprint is on any deal that matters

You need to relax and come to terms with the present situation. You can't change what's done, you can only look for ways to improve.

I've been having to "come to terms with the present situation" for a while, since the "present situation" has lasted twenty years so far.

Or he can finally learn that there's a free agent market outside of trash like Izturis.

I would also argue that you definitely could change what's been done, that's how you improve in baseball. You reverse your mistakes, or you compensate for them.

Hahaha

How many teams can say they are going into 2014 as a 'likely' playoff team? 2? 3?

Add in the dimension of the AL East (was Boston 'likely' to make the playoff last year?) and having a 'possibility' at the playoffs is really the most any Jays fan can ask for at this point.

Would be nice if we were discussing if Syndergaard and Stroman would both make the rotation out of ST, what numbers d'Arnaud is going to put up this year, Gose vs Marisnick, and when we might see Sanchez in the big show.

Oh and the money not allocated to Buerhle and Reyes would come in handy..... Lee?

2. Romero?

3. ???

4. ???

5. Syndergaard/Stroman?

The difference is AA went all in last year . Bad move considering all the freaking injuries but hindsight is always 20/20 . I,m convinced this was forced on him by ownership but the situation is what it is . We either gut or go for it . Adding a starter gives us a shot . Adding a starter and a bat gives us a better shot.

You don't think AA has tried to sign free agents ?? Sometimes even overpay won't convince a player to come to Toronto . Turf !!! , AL East !!! . A different country !!! Higher taxes !! , a lot of strikes when there is so much money floating around baseball these days .

I would also argue that you definitely could change what's been done, that's how you improve in baseball. You reverse your mistakes, or you compensate for them.

I think AA will go the FA Pitcher route on an overpay if he has the money and can convince a guy to come . He only has so much to trade and the cost is steep . Most of us want the FA route but any way you look at it the cost is really ugly

I don't care if we lose 110 games while building a dynasty club as opposed to a chance at a one and done
