eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 And to think we'll be there soon. And even the intelligent people on the forum are clamouring for a playoff berth at the expense of a demolished team for a half decade. Saweeeeet!!! We're nowhere near the Phillies. Reyes is our only large salary commitment on the books medium/long term.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 We're nowhere near the Phillies. Reyes is our only large salary commitment on the books medium/long term. Another common factor between Phillies-Jays is Alex (Amaro's IQ brotha)
BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Yay or Nay? Jays get: Hamels and Lee. No money. Philies get: Aaron Sanchez, Mark Buerhle, Rickey Romero. Yay. Absolutely. Won't happen though.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 No way AA takes on that much salary BTW, Amaro sure loves them vesting options, eh? Doc had a big fat one too (that didn't vest) I think his thinking will be...I was willing to trade EE for two years of Price, I can get Lee and ship EE out of the division. Where does he sign.

TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 I think we're dreaming about taking on salaries like this. After Arbi with Colby, Cecil, Esmil, and renewed contracts for the pre-arbi guys, we're going to be around 140-150. I personally don't see Rogers going above and beyond that.
TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 RAJ seems to wake up with a new direction evey single day. The guy is a disaster of a GM. Easily one of the worst, if not the worst, GM of the last decade. It's tragic what he turned Gillick's team into. Talk about a guy in love with his own guys. Hard to believe Gillick has much of a say as RAJ's "Sr. Advisor" with these stupid stupid contracts.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 10, 2013 Author Posted December 10, 2013 Yep too many bad players making too much dickey burleh Reyes killed us Plus dead weight like Romero in AAA

Hard to believe Gillick has much of a say as RAJ's "Sr. Advisor" with these stupid stupid contracts. Now that I've copied and pasted them in here, and looked at them closely, those contracts are even worse than I thought How can you control payroll with all those escalating salaries and insane number of vesting options??? Ehjays Verified Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Plus dead weight like Romero in AAA Man, you can say that again. I'll be glad when that contract is up
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 10, 2013 Author Posted December 10, 2013 Man, you can say that again. I'll be glad when that contract is up Just another 15 million to pitch in Buffalo #Ouch
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 10, 2013 Author Posted December 10, 2013 Hoe lee fuk I was wondering when you'd show up LOL
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Hamels would be great. He's to good of a pitcher though for us to target. We prefer broken down SP's
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 They really, really should trade all of Lee, Hamels, Pappelbon, Howard and Rollins They have zero chance of being even decent in 2014 Time to tear it down So why extend Utley? This guy is going in two directions at the same time. Knowing him, we can get both for a few relief prospects and Moises Sierra.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 We're nowhere near the Phillies. Reyes is our only large salary commitment on the books medium/long term. We have way too many players that have hit puberty.

xposbrad Verified Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 You know the yanks come in here and get Lee for like a C level prospect because they will eat the full salary.

Brenner Verified Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Analysis of Lee and Hamels' value on Breaking Blue! http://www.breakingblue.ca/2013/12/10/trade-value-of-hamels-and-lee/ Good article and I agree. I would trade 1 of Sanchez/Stroman for Hamels, plus probably a mid-tier prospect and a low-tier prospect. I think the WAR projects for Hamel might be a little low but his hefty contract negates any potential there. I like Lee but his contract is a poison pill, I would trade 1 mid-tier prospect like Nolin and maybe 1 low tier prospect but only because we are in a win now mode for the next two years and as a pitcher he is exactly what we need. Lee or Hamels and Brown would be a great pickup for this team. I know Brown is not popular here but he would fit at LF/DH and is a left handed power bat to supplant Lind. Lee + Brown for Lind + Nolin + 1 Mid tier Prospect + 1 low tier Prospect Maybe this is where Halladays 1 day deal pays off as he convinces Lee to come to Toronto.

Phillies were in win mode as well, but they recognize they need to retool in order to eventually try to win again. They have the ability to field a high payroll team. How is it they recognize that dumping those players could help their future but the Blue Jays believe they are in win now mode with the Yanks/Red Sox in their division and both have solid teams to field in '14 and can't realize that?
xposbrad Verified Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Also, were there indications the Blue Jays would field a 150m+ payroll this year? Also, it wouldn't make sense in acquiring a 20m+ pitcher unless we also upgraded a bat somewhere which could cost 10m. So that would give us a 160m payroll.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 There's three guys who shouldn't be going anywhere near that subject. Either I missed it, or they didn't talk about it. All I heard was talk about a guitar, then Halladay's winning percentage as why he should be a first ballot hall of famer(DEEEEEEEERP), JPA probably wont "find it" in Texas and Zaun is heading through western Canada for some reason and is going to take some radio guy from Calgary for a beer.

What's wrong with thinking Halladay is a first ballot hall of famer? I think everyone who is good enough to be in the hof should be a first ballot.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 The derp is winning percentage as an argument. Yeah I love Tim and Sid but I wish they'd never talk about baseball again

What happened?
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 yeah i love tim and sid but i wish they'd never talk about sports again ftfy
