Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Granderson on Mets meeting “It was a nice meal and it was great to enjoy some salmon,"
BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 This contract will look awful in years 4-7 I think it has a good chance of looking awful in years 1-7. Ellsbury making 20+ million a season, jesus
TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 The NY Daily News reports the New York Yankees have agreed to a 7-year, $153 million deal with Jacoby Ellsbury. WHOA.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Author Posted December 4, 2013 There are worse things than having a 1 WAR Ichiro hit 9th and play RF. Like sticking Granderson in CF everyday and getting payed $15M like the Yankees have done over the past few years. I still can't understand why they stuck with him in CF over Gardener for the longest time.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Yanks: Ellsbury, McCann, Cano, Tanaka Vs Jays: Navarro
BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I reiterate: don't like this deal for them
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 "The Yankees and Red Sox are weak," they said. "3 year window of contention," they said. "We'll make the playoffs and bring respect back to baseball in Canada," they said.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I reiterate: don't like this deal for them The Ellsbury deal is being signed three years after the Crawford one, in a market that is now disgustingly flooded with new money. The Ellsbury deal is worth significantly less than the Crawford one was, and it can easily pay off very quickly for them. This is a guy that posted 9.1 fWAR two seasons ago, and is coming off a 5.8 fWAR season. He only needs to put up 20-25 wins over the next 7 years to be worth the money.
Anemic0ffense Verified Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I knew this would happen. The last time they missed the playoffs they bought Burnett, Sabathia, and Teixeria, won 103 games, and then won the WS. Anyone would though they were going to play dead this offseason was off the mark. Even the Yankees have to have a limit... There's just no way they can pay 250mil and buy another pitcher... Can they?

Traded Bautista at his full value and gain top prospect. If only AA would have waited. We could have easily been viewed as a top contender with great young pieces to build from and possibly. This is after all woulda coulda shoulda talk. If Only AA was patient.....

Anemic0ffense Verified Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Their payroll isn't even close to that. They can add Kuroda and still be under 180 for the 25-man. I meant pay 250mil for Cano***
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 As I posted in the official thread, only jays4life19 (our runaway leader) predicted Ellsbury to the Yankees. He also predicted a 7/147 contract, which could get perfect marks (which would extend his perfect Part Two streak). I was lazy and only did part 2..but guessed 7/154 I think as I knew boras wouldnt settle on Crawford's 7/140 from a few years ago. Fig'd would be slightly more.. ..anyways, f***. Ellsbury is one of my favorite players. Was hoping he would go somewhere besides BOS or NYY
BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Nah... I can see him having a few big years, but after that..... Even that's questionable. They're paying 22M a season for a guy with a 108 career OPS+, and outside of that one freak season his career high in homeruns is 9. I know he does some other stuff (and gets injured a lot too, remember) but they're paying him MVP money.

This is after all woulda coulda shoulda talk. If Only AA was patient..... If we hadn't traded for Happ we would have likely had to trade for someone else. We had a LOT of players that would have had to be added to the 40 man (same with the trades last off-season). We can complain about a few of the players who were included or who we got back, but we had to trade a good volume of prospects one way or another. Honestly, when everything is considered, I'm really only upset about losing Syndergaard. I wanted to keep Gomes as bench depth since he could also cover 3rd, but at the time like most others I didn't view it as a massive issue. His breakout surprised pretty much everyone. I'm not high on d'Arnaud at all.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 A new Judas came to New York..................Damon, now you can rest in peace.

BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Am I the only person who thinks this is a stupid deal and it will blow up in the Yankees' faces? No apparently MohYou and I are on that boat. Btw, looking online a lot of Yankee fans don't like it either.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Fun fact: Ellsbury is 14th in baseball in fWAR over the last 3 years. I bet if you do WAR/150 games over last 3 years, he's prob higher. He had those fluke injuries
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Am I the only person who thinks this is a stupid deal and it will blow up in the Yankees' faces? I think the Yankees overpaid, but he should produce for them at least for the first few years (minus one or two on the dl).

Been there, and it's as short as it looks on TV

Been there, and it's as short as it looks on TV It's actually kind of surprising, but Ellsbury only has 4 home runs in 33 games in new yankee stadium.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Yes! Now cano is ours for the taking! Muawahaha
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Red Sox final offer to Ellsbury 5Ys/90M
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 If JE goes to NY, I will bet the first respectable board member that wants to $100 he finishes Top 5 in MVP vote. Pitchers wouldnt count though. Top 5 position players
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 6.7 WAR/150 over the last 3 seasons. Neck and neck with Braun. Better than Beltre, Zobrist, Pedroia, Votto, Cano, McCutchen, and 0.1 behind Cabrera. He's an elite player. I like this signing since Ellsbury is an elite player and one of the best CF's in baseball. All his injuries have been freak injuries more than anything. Also, I'd rather sign Ellsbury at this contract if I'm the Yankees rather than give Cano $250 million over 10 years - Ellsbury likely provides similar value at a cheaper cost and the Yankees don't lose a beat. It'll be tough to find the gaps with Ellsbury and Gardiner manning the outfield in New York.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Yankees this.... red sox this... throw in some tigers and rangers. Same thing every year
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I wouldnt have minded if the Jays gave him this deal. Even if you can call it an overpay, it's an elite player. Overpaying for elite players wont kill you, overpaying for 3rd players will
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Now Cano's feels betrayed and signs with the Jays.
