Maine Jays Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Morrow and Anderson could take turns alternating on the DL. Combine them and we have one spot in the rotation filled.
flafson Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 He's not healthy plus he's on 8mil, suppose to be a buy low option.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I'm interested too, under the blanket assumption that Sanchez and Stroman can't possibly be involved given the salary. If it's just a matter of eating the contract, I'd gladly take a shot on Anderson.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Author Posted December 3, 2013 We wouldn't have to give up Sanchez since Anderson is expensive. I'm interested. Something like this -------> (Jim Johnson ~10M for J-Weeks)
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Something like this -------> (Jim Johnson ~10M for J-Weeks) +1. That's the only way I'm interested in Anderson... probably would have just signed Kazmir tho.
TRM Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 If Billy is looking to cut salary given he just took on a 10M closer, I can't disagree with taking a shot on Anderson. Everyone was so high on him coming into last season.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 We should be looking at durable starters who can give us 170+ innings. Not Brett Anderson.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 We should be looking at durable starters who can give us 170+ innings. Not Brett Anderson. If the cost in prospects is minimal then he is worth a gamble.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Author Posted December 3, 2013 Gose for Anderson? Gose or Nolin
Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Gose for Anderson? I would do that. I am not a big believer in Gose.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 We should be looking at durable starters who can give us 170+ innings. Not Brett Anderson. Rolling with Anderson as a back end starter is definitely worth the risk, since he could provide a lot of value if healthy. If Brett Anderson is the only pitcher the Jays bring in, I'd be extremely disappointed. Though if the Jays also sign a more solid option like Garza, I'd definitely be happy with Anderson as a No. 4 or 5 since he has the potential to pitch like a No. 2 or 3 when healthy. Dickey Garza Buerhrle Morrow Anderson Depth: Nolin, Stroman, Hutch, Drabek, Rogers, Redmond, Jenkins, any other minor league FA. Rotation would look in good shape and the Jays have enough depth in their minors to fill in for Morrow or Anderson if needed.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Gose or Nolin I would prefer Gose. We need Nolin for when Anderson and Morrow both dislocate their shoulders high-fiving each other.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Dickey Buehrle Morrow Anderson Happ/Stroman/Hutch/Drabek That doesn't seem so bad. The real question is would you rather have Anderson at his salary, or spend even more in AAV and years for someone like Garza. We need a mid-rotation arm, period.

Both would bring the payroll over $150M.
TRM Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 8M this year and 12M next year with a Team buyout at 1.5 is really a great deal provided he stays healthy. And if not, buyout and it's basically a 1 year crapshoot contract like Colon or Kazmir would be, but also at the cost of a prospect (which isn't a biggie if it's Nolin or Gose IMO.)
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 If the cost in prospects is minimal then he is worth a gamble. The good thing about Anderson is that the injury last year was to the foot rather than the arm. If he's back to 100%, I'd absolutely love us to get him. #2 upside for sure. We still need to add an additional 200 inning arm though, because the chances of him making 30+ starts is about the same as D-Mac doing it. ... and lol at Steamer effectively projecting him to be a swing man.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Author Posted December 3, 2013 Ken Rosenthal #Athletics trying to make one more trade. Don’t know what it is. So, team could get Kazmir, J. Johnson, Gentry plus in 24-hour span… Brett Anderson will be a Jays.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 We'd be looking pretty solid 1-5 if we could get Anderson and Samardzija without moving Stroman or Sanchez. That I could fap to.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 It's nice to dream, but it's probably Anderson OR Garza. Both would bring the payroll over $150M. Anderson, and then use the remaining $10M to sure up 2B with Infante.
TRM Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Are you talking about Josh Johnson? Anderson's contract is 8M in 2014 and 12 in 2015... There is 1.5M team buyout after 2014.

Don't worry, AA will follow this up with a trade for Samardja or Bailey. It wouldn't be a winter without trading Sanchez.

There's no way we get Samalphabet without moving one of the two. I'd honestly consider moving one of the for him however, just to listen to Buck say his name every 5 nights.
Lawrie22 Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I have a feeling the trade rosenthal is referring to does involve Anderson and I wouldn't be shocked to see the blue jays get him. We have been rumored to have interest in Anderson for a while now and I could see AA buying low on him because I don't think the A's will ask for much back. Anderson would be a good #4/5 IMO, in a perfect world we acquire and sign a FA like garza to be a #2. Dickey Garza Buerhle Morrow Anderson
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Anderson, and then use the remaining $10M to sure up 2B with Infante. I'd have to pass on that. Not a fan of using $10M AAV on a 2nd division regular.
