" but I certainly hope I don't insult you. "

I don't believe you have, and if you did it must have

been back a few years. I remember our disagreements

on cito's handling of olerud and snider, and that you

explained your views with civility.

As far as boxcar goes, I don't have a problem with him. He seems like an ok guy,if fact most here are. Anyone who loves baseball must have enough redeeming qualities that outweigh their negative traits.

The cabrerra and trout argument is more about how

one defines MVP.

This gave me an idea. I substituted RE24 in place of wRAA and recalculated Miggy and Trout's WAR.

Miggy is considered pretty clutch, hit like .39x with RISP. But his RE24 was only 3 runs or so higher than his wRAA. Miggy had a 7.9 clutch WAR or whatever you'd like to call it.

Meanwhile, Trout's RE24 was like a full win and then some higher than his wRAA. This meant that Trout's new WAR would be 11.6.

Just an interesting counter I thought of for some of the "Miggy is clutch tho" arguments.

More good evidence that Trout deserved the award.

One thing that is weird is that going back 30 years the sports writers are not consistent on this. Cal Ripken won on a 60 win team in 91. Trammell lost in 87 despite being on the winning team (George Bell, rbi guy won).

Mo Vaughn won, despite way better pennant winning rbizzzzz guys options (Albert Belle, and Edgar Martinez). And actually John Valentin led in WAR that year?? John Valentin??

It seems rbis, "winning", and "popularity" are important. Then again Bonds won 7 times with 0 popularity and relatively low rbi counts.

Miggy's clutchness is based on intangibles. Kind of like his ability to continually avoid major jail time for numerous DUIs.

Yup, these picks are head scratchers, but you can't

go wrong with either trout or cabrerra.
