dineke Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 3-4 HR 6 RBI Rays are turning him into a top 10 catcher, those crafty bastards
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Man, we obviously just gave up on JPA way too early! WE'RE DOOMED! http://zipmeme.com/uploads/generated/g1342557533708901318.jpg
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 SIX of dem RBIS tonight... JPA going to TRY to come back to haunt us. Won't happen!
admin Site Manager Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Just think, if our front office didn't have their heads up their asses and gave JPA three full f***ing seasons behind the plate hitting .200/.250, Yan Gomes could have got a chance to be our catcher.

And then we wouldn't have Russ Martin. Even though he's slumping. I want Martin.
baubau Verified Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 And then we wouldn't have Russ Martin. Even though he's slumping. I want Martin. Why? Martin may be the better overall catcher but its not a night and day difference like him and Navarro. Gomes is more than a capable hitter and a excellent framer at a better contract. I like Martin but if I had to choose between the two, it'd be Gomes. Now if Gomes had the same contract, then yeah, probably Martin.

I don't think it is any coincidence Martin shows up and all of a sudden Navarro can throw out runners. I don't disagree with your point... All I am saying is I like where we are right now, with this team.

Caper Verified Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Lol You don't think he has? He already said as much as he talked about training with Martin, playing lots of soccer which helped with his foot work. But really though should you be laughing at anybody? You spent your entire time in this board saying how AA needed to be fired. How is that working out for you?

GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 And then we wouldn't have Russ Martin. Even though he's slumping. I want Martin. Actually, we probably would've signed Shields with the savings and been much better off. But there's no usefulness and productivity in this sort of analysis. This sort of thing happens all the time in sports.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 I honest to god hope Arencibia does not do anything in our last 2 series against him that would destroy our post season chances.

I'd have a lot more fun speculating on what would have happened if we had Nola, Bryant, Synd, Gallo and Turner. Dammit AA, build a time machine and go back and fix this!

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Can't wait for top ten catcher to murder the Yankees this weekend with his Golden bat.
bendera3 Verified Member Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 How great would it be if JPA took down both the O's and Yankees and wasn't even in a Jays uniform?

Caper Verified Member Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 Wat??? Does it need an explanation? Navarro, can't throw a runner out to save his life. Russ Martin shows up and all of a sudden he can throw out runners. I have no doubt training with and observing Martin has played a role in this. DN has said as much, at least the training part and concentrating on foot work.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 Is Navarro's CS rate so high that we can call it a marked improvement? He's been on the DL or bench a lot of the year and only occasionally starts. Unless there are serious numbers here, I'd just call this whole season a stop-and-go small sample for him.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 Not worried about JPA. We took the "curse of the ex catcher" head on with Gomes and his 2 HRs, and came out with a W thanks to Goins. JPA had an offensive outburst when he first went to Texas too and then became the real JPA soon after. He was in Rolling Rock before long.

Also, it has a lot to do with who's pitching to him.

Trying to infer anything about Navarro's arm based on CS% in backup catcher innings wouldn't be wise.
